Wanted to get some feedback from you guys on this car. It is essentially considered to be the modern incarnation of the GT4 Celica. The one pictured above is the 2006 model in Japan.

Engine: 3S-GTE

Are they using a cast Iron or Alloy block ? If this is a alloy version of the ST205 gen 6 engine then its gonna be light for 2L's as the orgional weighed a tonne.

so much power... and the car looks like ****. Toyota needs some work on how they design cars. Celica "looks fast" but they don't give it much oomph. Caldina looks like a matrix/beetle, and they put a monster under the hood. Its just not fair.... :(

Is it still only available with an auto tranny?

I'll be in Japan in less then 15 months I will be buying an Evo VI or a SupraTT and I am not paying over $7,000 for either. I bypass this car.

That car is in the market to compete with the upcoming Mazda 3 MPS. Would be nice if they brought it to the states.

I love it. Though it doesnt live up to the GT-4 badge, it is a cool looking sport van thingy.

Its the next gen 3s-GTE, different from that of the ST205.

Ditto. If they offer a 2 door version it would be sweet! It's only cosmetic appeal is that it's a definite sleeper...

256.44 bhp and 238.97 tq after conversion :AF:

What's it weigh?

correct me if I'm wrong, that car came out in like 2001 or 2002. I've seen a few of them in Hong Kong, they're really nice. There is another similar looking car call the "Will VS", I believe it's made by Toyota, it uses our GT-S engine, also sold in Hong Kong. http://www.carfolio.com/images/dbimages/zgas/models/id/7256/will_vs_completed.jpg

It actually uses the ST246, the latest generation of the 3S-GTE.

GT-Four on the left with the hood scoop. Doesn't look that bad to me.

Actually some auto turbo'd cars have been found to outperform their manual counterparts. Just ask any auto Supra TT owner. From what I've been hearing from other Caldina owners, its quick as stink.
There are rumors circulating that the car may eventually make it over to the US under the Scion brand name.

And if they do bring it here under the Scion name it will undoubtedly be the base Caldina model only, not the GT-Four. Thats the game Toyota likes to play with us. :(

So is this ST246 engine cast from iron or alloy ? If its alloy then Toyota have done something right for a change. If not then its gonna be a very heavy lump.

i like it, i like wagons.

i only wish they had this here. i think it looks bad as$ and has the power to go with it.

I would like to find out what the engine is made of.

ST246 is actually the chassis code, like the Celica GT-S is ZZT231. The engine is still just 3S-GTE (probably still 3rd gen, but with VVT-i), just a different version than the last one we had here (200hp 2nd gen). I haven't heard anything about an aluminum block on any 3S-GTE so far, though. Still a heavy, yet potentially powerful lump. ;) My mechanic said my MR2's tranny was one of the heaviest he's had to work with that he can remember, so that doesn't help weight savings, either.

Its actually the 4th Gen Blue, not the 3rd, and ST246 is the corresponding model code ;)

they all come with that hood. Thats the stock hood for the GT-Four Caldina. The other Caldina beside it without the scoop is not a GT-Four.

Its actually the 4th Gen Blue, not the 3rd, and ST246 is the corresponding model code ;) Mmm, sounds like engine swap time. :chuckles: Wonder how much of the improvement in power vs the 2nd gen comes from VVT-i, and how much from extra boost. Know of any dynos for a 4th gen, manufacturer or otherwise?

Agreed. I'm sure it looks way better in person. Well, at least I hope it does, cuz the pictures don't cut it for me.

I've been digging through some Caldina forums for just that, but so far nothing yet. Owners have been claiming mid 13s in the 1/4 mile, and 0-60 in 5.x secs.

The general consensus is that the car is pretty fast, comparable to the STi.
