6 1/2"

Keep in mind that "6 speakers" means that the front two 6.5s have smaller drivers on top of them, that's where the total of "6" speakers comes from. As a friendly reminder, the search feature is very handy and would lead you to this:

2x in each 6.5" in each door = 4
1x tweeter in each door = 2
1x 6.5" on each side in rear area = 2
4+2+2 = 8
But that's besides the point. In any case, to upgrade your sound system, you'd need 4 total 6.5" speakers and 2 tweeters. Probably a better idea to get one component set (2x 6.5"s and 2x tweeters with crossovers) and then an extra set of 6.5"s

That's the setup for the GTS system. The GT, if I'm not mistaken, does not have tweeters. I believe his "where the other 2 were at" comment referred to him only seeing 4 grilles and wondering where the 5th and 6th speakers were.

Your upgrade suggestion is on point though, I agree that replacing the factory stuff is better.

Yup I think the 8 speaker system was an option for all Celicas. I thought every Celica had tweeters though, and it was just the front 6.5" that was different. Maybe not..

Stock amp is behind the dash on the passenger side. A little metal box looking thing. The one with all your speaker wires coming in/out of it

the only difference to the upgraded stereo is the extra set of 6.5" speakers.

It has tweeters.

I find the Celica speakers were a PITA to replace.
