You guys are really helpful on everything, and certainly know more about all this stereo stuff than I do. Anyways, I am looking to get a nice setup, like anyone, good bang for the buck. I want a nice deep/clean stereo, the celica needs a little bit more bass. I don't want something you can hear two blocks down the road, but something that will enhance the stereo a little bit. I don't need huge amounts of power either, but it would be nice to have it if I roll up next to some Neon or something. I am hoping to do all one company, and was looking into Alpine. What is the difference in their types? Type E, Type R, Type S? From the sounds of it, Alpine makes great head units, but I am looking into subs and an amp right now. I was thinking 2 10" would be a nice setup. Any suggestions?
Thanks
Danny

if i were to recommend you a head unit.. id say a kenwood mask cd player.. they make some of the best head units... great clear sound.. lots of options and stuff...however they arent very cheap... if you want some good bass for the money i recommend some JL audio subs.. go for 2 10''s in a sealed box... nice tight clean bass... as far as amps go... if you want a good amp for the money id say go for a kenwood KAC-629S.. 160 watts x 2 (for the tens) and a KAC-849 (100x 4) for your front and rear speakers...id recommend some kenwood component speakers for your front.. and some of their nice 3 way 6.5'' speakers for the rear... so its the head unit, speakers and amps that would be kenwood... and only the subs that are JL... ive worked with JL audio and kenwood products and they are great.... you should just know how much you got to spend and then go from there

Also take a look at the thread at the top of this section with everyones trunk setup for ideas as well. I'm sure everyone will be willing to help you out with your questions. How much money are you looking to spend? That would help with equipment reccomendations.

I don't want to spend all that much, in comparison to everyone else's setup. So I want something around say $600 ish for subs and amp and I am going to build my own box.

Here are some of my suggestions:
Subs:
Image Dynamics - Hear good things about these all the time
Audiomobile - I have these and love them
Fosgate - the old standbye
Infinity Perfects - Hear lots of good things about these as well
Adire Audio - I've heard good things about thier Brahma line but they are PRICEY. I don't know about the other models.
Amps:
these are just for sub amps...
MTX - I am running the 6500D and its a good value for the amount of power you can get out of it.
Orion XTR
Fosgate
PPI
US Acoustics - I ran one of these for over 2 years at 2 ohms mono (was only rated for 4 ohms mono) with no problems at all. So its a good amp in my book :)
JBL - cheap watts but I dunno about the quality, never used or heard them
These are just my suggestions, I'm sure I've missed a couple other good brands. But I'm sure out of these manufacturers you can stay under your $600 budget easily.
Oh, and if you want to check out the Adire Audio stuff they only sell it direct and their website is www.adireaudio.com . Audiomobile is also only sold by them directly at www.audiomobileinc.com or at sounddomain.com . The rest of this stuff you can find pretty much anywhere.

well for 600 it'd be hard to get a HU, amps, subs, speakers. real hard. Alpine head units are great, but you pay more for less than another brand. i mean, for the same pricepoint you'll get more from other brands definately. i'd go with a pioneer in your situation. amps, i donno, you need something cheap to stay in that range, so maybe kenwood amps. speakers, well, i'd try getting a 4ch. amp and running it to the stock ones. they're supposed to be pretty damn nice when powered right. and then get a 2ch. amp for the subs. jl subs are good. even with this setup, i'd think you'd be at:
HU: 300
AMPS: 400
SUBS: 250
plus wiring, box, etc.
so you're still talking 1000. but it'd be pretty decent.

So does anyone know about Alpine stuff out of curiosity? Amps/Subs.... Because I know their hu's are good.

Alpine heads: IMO awesome, top of the line. You may get fewer features than some other brands, and spend a little more money, but the sound quality is unmatched.
Alpine Amps: again, maybe not as many watts for the dollar, but damn, these pump out some CLEAN sound.
You may also want to look at some of the Eclipse hu's. I think they are really nice too.
If I were you, go out and listen to a LOT of different setups, both in the store, and in people's rides. If you know you are getting subs, etc, you may want to get your car wired beforehand. I know some places will put equipment in your car while on their lot to test it out.
Above all else, remember to follow your ears.

alpine amps are pretty good. they're going to be better than sony, kenwood, pioneer, stuff like that. not as good as the real expensive, real good stuff, jl, xtant, etc. their new ones look really nice with the voltmeters and all.
for subs, i wouldn't go with alpine. i'd still say JL audio. they're very versitile, as far as if you want sound quality, or bass. 10w3s or 12w3s.
