as i call my friend up yesterday morning to see what he was doing, he told me that there was a autocross which was going my by house. So i decided to check it out. what did i see??? almost every gen. M3.  ......there were almost 20 of them.....roadster'z, coupe, convertable, 2 M5'z and the all mighty m coupe w/ a M5 motor in it and there was a 325 which race on SCCA to this day(s-hit fast).....hah...that was whipping around track like it was a day in the park.....i fell in love w/ autocrossing that morning.......since it was sponsor'd by the M club....they got to run first.....then came the other imports....type R'z, WRX, 300zx, supra'z, 3000gt...ect.......the action carried on today when SCCA came to have their autocross.......one of the fastest or the fastest car was a AWD A4 1.8t (wow)...... wanna talk about dumb fast....this was it. this weekend was one of the greatest i'v had in a long time.

p.s- the third fastest car was a Dodge NEON!!!......which beat z06, supras, couple of poshe turbo'z and some cobra'z........which goes to show that speed is not the only thing u can have to have some fun w/ ur car

i would like to autocross w/ SCCA when they come by next time but i don't think that our carz are fit for autocross..........the reason i say that is cuz we do not have high power at low rpm'z and u need that when autocrossing.....don't u??? NEone that has autocrossed what did u do or what do u do to keep ur car at a high speeds on the little straight aways that they got???

The 7th gen Celica GT is THE car to have in it's class for SCCA autocrossing (GS).

The GTS isn't actually much faster than the GT on the typical autocross course. The cars handle the same (but the GT is a touch lighter), only the GTS gets put in a much tougher class.

Check out the autocross forum, there is a thread overthere right now for autocrossing in your area.

Low RPM grunt is nice for getting out of the turns, but by having a car that handles well (ours) you can keep the speeds up in the turns, so you don't need as much of that low RPM power as you think.

The biggest problem with the Celica is the lack of a limited slip differential, it is very hard to get the power we have down to the road on corner exit.

Give it a try, you will like autocrossing a lot.

The GT used to go to ES but the SCCA shook up the classing for 2002. the GT is now GS, the GTS is now DS, modded they both go to DSP STS, SM, etc.

TRD StreetRacing - save your money, the more you mod the car the harder autocrossing will be, I don't care what you are driving, your first time out I could beat you in my Celica, even if you were driving a new Porsche 911 GT2, I would beat you, 95% driver, 5% car, it's that simple.

The Neon *driver* beat all those other guys (the Neon is actually a very good autocross car when it isn't broken).

well thanx for the edvice but i really have to get the tien'z because i have the ground controll coilover on and i want a smoother ride......the gc's are good but not that grreaaaaaat......and far as the lim. slip........wont that help me out alot in autocrossing? if i'm getting the lsd, might as well put in the rest. well that's my 2 cents. I'm starting to like autocrossing but i like my lil runz i have w/ type R'z, 3000gt's and wrx'z...ect ......on the way to work or school sometimez:evil:

it will help, but it will also bump you into a faster class...you'll go from STS to STX or DSP.

I think Scott's point was that you'll get a lot more bang per buck autocrossing by working on your driving. The performance mods only really make a difference when you've got the driving pretty well refined.

Also, when you start putting adjustable stuff in the car, then you can get too caught up on tuning the car instead of becoming a better driver (what you might see referred to as "fixing the nut behind the wheel")
