Is that low knocking sound normal?

on the GT-S motor, its not noticeable when the car is cold but after the day is over, theres a low knocking sound, i heard this is normal on a "Vtec" engine? how loud is it supposed to be?

he's not saying vtec on a celica i think. he is trying to say that it is normal on a vtec engine for comparison.

i've heard this sound for a while. i guess it's pretty normal on the gt-s. all of the others that i've heard do it. does your car have a ticking sound from the valve cover? i never paid attention to other gt-s' and i noticed it on mine recently. it's not the injectors popping off. it sounds more like a valve tapping. let me know if u notice it.

At idle a GT-S is kind of tappy. It's not supposed to be perfectly smooth if that's what you mean. GT is the same way really.

Ya, there is a low tapping sound, it was there ever since, i just suddenly got worried.

are you sure its not your drive belt tensioner? they have had a problem with those and have replaced many it seems. I thought "engine problem" when mine started knocking but it was just the tensioner.
