I have a 01 GT-S with 90000 miles on it. I am still getting lift at 6200 rpms. I have not replaced my lift bolts. Does that mean mine are not broke, but I should probably replace them with the new ones?

It won't hurt to change them. Better to do it before theuy break than after they break.

:werd: $2 for the 2 bolts, then depending on how well you work on your car, maybe a couple hours as long as they're not broken

When these bolts break do they do damage to the engine, or does lift just stop working?

lift is not as strong or it doesn't have the same effect as before. I don't remember anybody having engine damage from them. The main thing is when they actually DO break, it is often hard to get the bottom part out of where it is. This is why it's better to replace them before they break. When I replaced mine, there were obvious stress marks on both of them (gen 2). It's better to be proactive than reactive when it comes to lift bolts. Especially when you consider the price of it vs the annoyance they could give you when they break

uh, yeah you definitely wanna check them out ASAP before one of them does break. It's an easy 1-2 hr install if they're not broken

You have to use an eazy out or bolt extractor, most people have good luck with the one from Sears. Mine has been broke for like 6 months and I havent got it taken out yet, probably gonna buy the bolt extractor from Sears and try and remove it this weekend.

sounds like a major pain in the ***..why doesnt toyota just make them out of something stronger? or could you use a similar or same size/threaded bolt made out of like titanium or something? would probably end all broken lift bolt issues...

theres a TSB from toyota about removing broken bolts, I dont remember all of it but I know it involves removing the camshafts.

I dont know how to fully explain it, but you use the bolt extractor and drill into the top of the broken lift bolt, it takes a few hours to fully get into the bolt and then somehow (not sure how), you can pull the bolt out. You could probably do a search and it will show and tell you how to do it.
