THE FIT IS GO!

I read about 5 reviews on the Fit v. Yaris so far (autoweek, motortrend, etc . . . . )

the Fit is universally loved. The Yaris is universally reviled. They say the Yaris is slightly better than the Echo, but still the worst thing Toyota sells in America. Giant turd.

Contrarily, they compare the Fit to the old EK and EG Civics, but with better handling/power. Its a blast to drive.

I drove a fit a few weeks ago. Im still pondering trading the celica for one when the 2008 models arrive. It has pretty decent handling, power is reasonable for a commuter car. But it is rather small on space. even though it does compensate with the rear seats.

if you are looking for a car with over 35MPG economy, this is what id get since the fit sport 6spd is only $17k, which isnt bad considering all the features it comes with.

If you wanted something that still gets 30+ but is a little bigger with more power. Id get a mazda3 since a 5 door can be had for $18k and looks really nice and has better handling.

don't forget the new Civic - 40mpg.

I'd probably just spend $5000 and get an old Civic DX - 45 mpg no problem, proper gearing and plenty of power to cruise at 80.

Or you could save yourself a couple of grand and buy a Geo Metro. Ungodly MPG, and cheap as sh1t.

autoweek
motortrend
car & driver

autoweek had like 3 or 4 reviews in the last few months - they universally choose the Fit every time over cars like the Yaris

And every Yaris review I've read, even independent of the Fit, absolutely hates the Yaris.

Fit has been sold as the Jazz in Europe for several years now. I drove in one while in the Czech Republic, very nice for a base model car.

If I didnt mind paying another 8 grand more, I would have jumped on the 3 instead of the celica.

That was the best price/performance/looks/space/quality combination I could find. There isnt really anything better under 20k.

You can get a 3i manual for $13,710 retail or $12,848 invoice. That's a steal, especially compared to the Civic which is going for $17-$18, and considering its cheaper than a Scion or a Fit, and comes with 148 hp compared to 105, and killer handling.

just test drove one today..i must say that i liked it very much..it wasnt as bad as i thought for an econo-car. I drove the 5pd one and the shifts are smooth..gearing isnt too bad either. The best this i like about it is the massive amount of space you can make by just moving the seats around. The only bad thing was that it sat a little high..but maybe its only because im used to the celica. My only big disappontment is the MPG. 32/39. I think honda could have done a little better than that..considering its only a 1.5..i saw the motor and i could litterly pick up the damn thing! I havent test drove the Mazda3 yet..but i will 2morrow just to open up some options.

thats for the base sedan. I Was looking at the 5-Door with the 2.3. For the one i wanted $18,000.

the little 2.0L handles better, and you can barely tell the power difference becuase the 2.3L hatch weighs a lot more - the 2.3L has a little more midrange.

2.3L in the sedan is the best compromise.
has a better grille.

The Fit is a fantastic car. Great handling, excellent spatial engineering and extremely well thought out vehicle.

I have not driven the Fit ,but I drove a Geo Metor and you had to turn the AC off to make it up a hill. But the MPG was jsut great , I could drive around all day on 1/2 a tank.

How do those stats make it better than the fit?

CeliChick2003

It's quicker while still having the same MPG, the gas tank is bigger also which is nice. The fit does look a lot better, but it's slower too. The Versa also comes in optional 6spd.

Unlike some recent cars aimed at a younger market, there are no "trick" lighting schemes or weird gauge placements to confuse the most important issue, the simple act of driving.

No chills, no thrills
And this is where the Versa shows its major compromises. It isn't being touted as a sport hatch, and it surely isn't. It's fairly quick off the line, but once the engine reaches 4,000 rpm, it begins to grumble loudly about the increased revs. Nor is the 1.8-liter four as smooth or refined as the Honda's smaller 1.5-liter engine, and though the Nissan engine is rated higher in both horsepower and torque, our testing showed it was no faster than the Fit due to the Nissan's extra 255 pounds of weight.

Pound through the gears of the quick-shifting six-speed and the Versa hits 60 mph in a leisurely 9.5 seconds. It takes 9.3 seconds in the Fit. The quarter-mile run is also a snore

Oh well, who gives a crap. They are all still crappy econo boxes that don't get much more mileage than my celica.

i read the Fit has an annoying "b*tch" seat where its too hard for a 5th person to sit, but CAN be sat in (with seatbelt). Other than that, I like the car. Does the Fit have more space than the xB?
I like Honda cars... the only thing that makes me cringe at one is, every time I see HONDA, i think of those annoying Honda fools.
