my buddy has a set of g-games that are 18x8.5 with a +32offset. they are rubbing a few times. should it get clsoe to a +30offset it would rub completely.

now if you get a 18x9 with a 35 or less offset you should be good.

I have 18" 8.5 and there is no rubbing, I am not sure of the offset though:(

He wants an APR kit.

Burton,
I'll answer your other questions here since there is no need for two threads on the same subject....

Would that mess with the handeling of the car at all?

and how wide of tires were you gona have?

No, it won't mess up the handling. It just puts stress on your lugs. As long as you keep them tight, you would be okay.

I was going to use 245/40/18.

Now take my advice and forget about this whole APR kit idea. If you buy the kit, you will be sorry, trust me. I can give you many reasons not to buy it.

Well now that you know it, what advice would you give him? Do you think he should get the kit?

if you are willing to do some serious suspension changing.. the rim size is as limited as your cash!!! :chuckles:

but yeah.. there are some members here that have 19's.. but you'll have to ask them their tire size and all the good stuff.

If he has the money, yes. And as to what rims he should get for a widebody celica, I wouldn't have any clue. I've never thought about either fender flaring my car or getting it widebodied, so I've never put the time to search for info.

puttin that kit goes beyond just buying it. You will spend COUNTLESS hours fixing it, getting it just right. Plus he will need new rims, tires, new paint. The price is around 9-10 to get it all on. Im agree with eric, it isnt worth it, but if you have that much to fork out, then why not.

Too much money is definitely a good reason not to get it, but that's not the reason I sold mine. I had the kit....paid $2,500 for it....then paid $600 for a shop to prep the kit for paint....paid $2,800 for used wheels to fit the kit....and was about to give the shop another $2,000 to install the kit.

Then I realized what a mistake I was making and sold everything. It wasn't because of the money though. There are many other reasons.

Hey guys I wana go with 19's RH CX
If you mention putting 25 pound 19's on your car again, I will refuse to help you with anything from this point on.

anyone know of 19"s that are light weight

No. Forget about 19's. They are all way too big and heavy. If the only thing you cared about were looks and just winning car shows, I would say "Great, the APR kit and 19's are a good choice. Your car will look great and you will win shows".

But you say that you want 350 hp. Once you spend the money for that much hp, you will want to know that you did everything possible to make your car as fast as you could. Trust me on this.

You sound just like I did a couple years ago. In fact, one of my first threads on this site was just like this one...."Hey guys, I want 19's and an APR kit. Which wheels should I get?"

One of my reasons for wanting the kit was the same as yours...."I can put wider wheels on the APR kit to handle the power I want". After I bought the kit, I found out that you can put 8.5" wide wheels on a stock Celica. Same size as all the APR Celicas have on theirs.

You can stuff a 9" wide wheel on the front of an APR kit, but that 1/2" isn't going to help if your wheels are too big and heavy.

When people told me that 19's would slow me down, I said "I don't care, my car will still be fast".

Then the more money I put into my motor, the more I started thinking...."Man this motor is going to be awesome, but something isn't right....I didn't do all the other things I needed for it to be a true performance car".

So now I'm sticking with my TRD kit and putting a set of 13 pound, 17X8 SSRs on. Then I'll continue to work on weight reduction. We have a member here that got his Celica down to 1,930 lbs. Once my car is under 2000 lbs and I have over 550whp, I'm pretty sure it will be fast and I'll be happy knowing that I did everything I could to make it a great performance car.

Hope this helps with your decision.
