Heres the deal: I have a 2000 gt-s automatic. its not my fault i wound up with the auto, so dont flame me. I can get a manual tranny w/ shifter, clutch pedal, ecu, slave cylinder, everything for pretty cheap. I also can do the install myself. Do you guys think it would be worth it for me to change the auto out for the manual? I can do it for much cheaper than trading the car in, or selling it. Also im at 24000 miles and my warranty is up at 36000, so would it be a good idea to do it while im still in warranty, or out of it? Thanks
Chase
6spd is definitely more fun than auto.. its alot of work but hell if u can do it, then I say yeah..

I say go for it. How important is warranty to you? If you don't really care about warranty that much and got money ready, go for it. You might have to swap to a manual 6 seed GTS ECU. Good luck if you decide to ahead this this project!

You'll need the 6 spd GTS ECU. The ECU isn't going to let you go beyond, what is it for the autos 7900 rpm?. The ECU may even try to "shift" to the next gear and then your fuel/ignition maps will get all phucked up. The fuel/ignition maps may be completely wrong as it is...

Sounds extremely time consuming and costly. IF it's worth it to you, then I'd say do it! Like Celica RZ, I'd change the ECU to a manual one from a wrecked celica. I'm sure they're around. Especially since we've all seen pics of a few. ECUs are expensive though, from what I understand.
Anyhow, if it were up to me, since i'm not knowledgable on engines, then i'd just buy a new one. with my understanding, the costs would turn out to be about the same (the cost of the 6sp modifications + ecu would amount to the difference of sticker+sold price).

when you do the swap, can you take pics please. Even do I don't plan on doing a swap, I'd like to know exactly what's involved. It does sound pretty time consuming though.
