If you truely want to feel your car and see how it rides, a shift all the way. Automatic is just for luxury cars where you can relax and enjoy the music. If you get a gt-s, then definitely get a shift. Ofcourse when it's bumber to bumber traffic, I wish i had an automatic but other then that, I have no regrets getting a stick shift. It's hella fun!

if you're getting a GT-S, i suggest getting a stickshift to get the full potiential of the cars horsepower. if you get an auto, might as well get a auto GT because you won't be able to keep the car in high rpm's when you want to, like a 6-speed would.

I would say stick. Shifting is much more fun then just pushing the gas pedal imo.

i've had stick shifts my whole life and i don't think i would have it any other way.
My GT-S is my first 6spd though and IMO its too much shifting especially in traffic. I still love it

stick is so much fun and the gts was made for driving it stick.

Manual of course, so much more fun. Keeps you a little more active while driving.

Manual. I'm in hell driving automatic rentals while my car is in the shop. I even have to commute in rush hour bumper to bumper traffic every day, and I still prefer a manual without a second thought.

To all the people who complain about driving stick in rush hour traffic ... I think it's harder and more fatiguing to keep your foot on the brake. :shrugs:

I think you should close this thread down. 100% of the people said Manual is better. Hands down.

Well you could power shift a automatic, but it still wouldnt be as fast as a manuel, and manuels are hands down funner to drive, why not test drive either and go from there.

I just bought my Celica last week. I wasn't really planning on buying one but I saw it & I had to have it after I drove it(& talked the guy down on it). The shifter buttons on the steering wheel of the gts are a blast, it's like playing a video game. It's certainly nice to be able to pop the shifter over in traffic & not have to worry about shifting through 6 gears. If you are building a race car get a stick, but I think it would be annoying to have a one as a daily driver. For me that's probably just becuz it's hard to fire it up & shift at the same time tho. Just my two cents, I had to defend my purchase! :hide:

Think I'm the only one who does not mind my auto. Think I'm just thankful for it cause I have been waiting a while for a celica!

Oh you can roast one, shift gears and talk on the phone all at once in your celly and not be in some uncomfortable awkward position. You just have to get used to it first.

what the...?! Manual almost always does better in gas mileage than automatic. its due to the gearing and number of gears. not only do you use some more gas up, you also loose a bit of power.

i don't mind my automatic.. of course everyone always laughs at automatics because you don't have to "shift"
overall experience and feel for your car goes hands down to manual
overall luxury and just cruisin goes to automatic

I was getting 34-36mpg in my GT-S 6 speed before I sold the car. This is with a decent amount of traffic, too (2-3hrs to travel 50mi, 5 days a week).
