Here's a link to the pics. This must be from day one. The Matrix on display was the non turbo, and Christian's car wasn't out yet.

I've got nothing to really back this up but I think if you could get a modded 1zz to the 150-160whp range of the stock 2zz you would actually be faster because of the 1zz's better torque (if you didn't lose it getting to that hp level!)

On that note, here's a comparison of stock and near stock 1zz's and 2zz's. From 3000 to 5000, it's pretty even. I see a bit of advantage at 5500 for the 1zz. After lift is a whole 'nother story, of course:
