i saw it in a mag @ walmart. i think it was car and driver.. it's 200hp.. i guess it'll be much faster than the GTS eh?

yes it'll be faster and still handle like a "TANK".
Well I guess beefing up the power is the priority and not upgrading handlbility is key for Scion

It'll be a matter of hours till tC fans see this thread and start taking a defensive postion on the SCed tC. :wiggle:

Probably as fast as a stock GT-S with a good driver. Remember how much the car weighs. It's not like adding 40hp to a GT-S.

In any case, I bet that S/C kit only makes 200 hp with the engine unbolted from the drivetrain...

OEMs never advertise whp, since it can vary so much between cars. Just like GT-S' can dyno from 150-160whp stock.

I would think that it would be a drivers race. The older RSX-S is 200hp, but can run even with a GT-S with a good driver. The TC and the RSX are both heavier so I wouldn't call it any faster. I still like the TC's, but I don't see any point in supercharging them and getting even worse mileage on a car that should just be daily driven.

yeah, im about to get a tc scion for my chick, i just placed an order in and will have to wait 2-4 weeks for the car to come in. i was considering trd charge, but the gas is more than my celica from the research i done. forget that, i spend 45 bucks a tank every day in my gts 6 speed. And i wanted to turbo her TC. lol.
if i had to buy a new car for my self, i would get me that toyota prius hybrid.
now thats pimp.

the 07 has a redesigned intake and exhaust manifold for better emissions. rumor has it the exhaust manifold redesign wont allow TRD supercharger compatibility.

hey, blue, that reminds me of somthing ive been wondering about. since the gts is a pretty light car, would a supercharger (50whp), make the gts that much noticeably quicker? like 220whp pushing a 2500lb car ... wouldnt that make it quick as ****?

also too many celica vs TC comparisons on here. This stuff has been brought up many times on Newcelica.org. I have yet to see a thread about a Celica vs tC thread on a Scion forum because no one really cares . . .
IMO neither car is very impressive and I wouldn't own either car for any purpose other than Daily Driving . . .

^^ Yup you're right but the comparison thing is gonna happen eventually in other threads for example RSX TypeS against a GTS. It doesnt really matter what car it is people on this forum will always compare to the Celica. Unless its something completely out of the league of FWD. :chuckles: Tho I disagree on your last point only the tC , Celica GT and auto GTS should be only daily drivers. I consider the 6speed GTS a few levels better in performance than the others I mentioned. I only say that cus its still FWD

^ yea i mean gt-s is of course more performance oriented than tC, but like you said the RSX,Celi,tC are nothing overly impressive when u considering Performance import cars like Rx-7 and 8's, Subbie,Evo's,350's,s2000's . . .
but yea I am getting off topic. Supercharger is a nice and safe addition to the tC, but it is not enough power for the tC to be competetive with real performance cars on the strip at least.

I think getting a supercharger for the tC is like installing a SC on a GT. It's not really worth the money IMO

^^$5000 total for 30-40 hp gain. Definetly "NOT" worth it. Get a turbo instead with that cash and get "way" better gains, and dont tell me S/Cs are more reliable cus it depends on a "good" tune for any F/I system to run poperly without problems.
Carbonized_GT
07-04-2006, 03:41 PM
yeah joey, for the gt best gains are from a turbo, if your worried about reliability, all aftermarket modified cars will have some issues.

outta all the cars u mentioned, the rx 8 is weak @ss hell for the price tag... Handling may be good...but it's another costly slow pos like the celica..
mid 14's for a high price tag... it'll get embarrass by some of us celica drivers..

Sounds like it. Scion advertises the SC tC will have 200hp, and they never advertise at the wheels, and we know the GT-S makes around 220 with an SC at the wheels, which is more like 250-260 at the crank.

i ve seen SCed TCs at the tracks and they are only running low 15s with them and high 15s/low 16s stock or slightly modded............1/8 miles they are running around low to mid 10s someeven high 10s..........there vehicle weight is what kills them

^^yeah from what I've seen the weight of the car does seem to hold it back from getting better times in 1/4 mile.Poor handlbility stems from a combination of chassis design and lots of weight. I'm sure Scion wasn't concentrating on making the tC a performance powerhouse but more of a good daily driver. It's obvious on what the car can and can't do to see that

I hate to use magazine specs, but in the latest Sport Compact Car they did a install and test of the TRD supercharger and it put down 204whp i believe.

Ive seen one dynoed it was around 165-170whp....i dont know what was going on cause i thought those numbers were very low for that SC but maybe it was right cause its suppose to be at 200 hp they say.
but still 204 whp on a car that weighs a little over 3000 pds+driver will get you no where. So what if you have power, its all about power to weight ratio that im concerned with. Plus there centrifigul charger doesnt get full boost right when you step on it.....so theres a bit of lag involved with the TRD SC......
