his car was running fine this morning he stopped in for gas, he had some gas left in the tank but not much he filled his tank up and now it dies at low rpm, but if he revs it up it will stay running. It starts up fine but after a second without his foot on the gas it just dies. what do you think it is? we have two ideas so far, either the fuel filter or bad gas. we think its not likely to be bad gas becasuse its stated tested, right? but if it was the fuel filter than why would it only die at low rpm,s? we checked all the plug connections and electrical connections, what is your guys opinions?

i dont really know a whole alot about cars so please help us out, thanks.

it really could be bad gas, I've seen it happen here in VA, the station would add water to it

That happened to me once in my carbureted firefly. In my case, it was okay when it was warm, but needed to be floored to keep it running when cold. I put in some gas line antifreeze and the problem went away, so I suspect that there was a lot of water in the gas. Tell your friend to try it. If you can't find gas line antifreeze, just use fondue fuel, its the same stuff.

Does he/she have an aftermarket alarm? Exact same thing happened to me on my old Cobra and I found out my computer kept shuting the car off because it was thinking the car was being stolen.

Like others have said the first thing to try is a bottle of dry gas and see if it helps. It's usually just water in the gas. If that is not the problem you're only out a buck or two.

State tested....that's a good one. In theory the gas that a gas station sells is regulated by the county auditor both to make sure a gallon is a gallon and that gas is gas. At least that is the case in Ohio. In actuality you end up with a case like we have here in Cleveland. The Plain Dealer about two years back paid to have gas from 30 different stations analyzed. 12 out of the 30 had water in the gas (usually I've heard this is caused by the caps of the underground tanks not sealing correctly and rain-water getting in), 8 had sediment of one sort or another, and only 3 of the 30 were selling gas that was actually the octane they claimed it was(10 regular, 10 plus and 10 premium were tested, two regulars and one premium actually were what they claimed). Of course nothing was ever done about it and you just have to assume that the case is still the same. I'm VERY picky about where I will buy gas from and unless I am traveling or it is an emergency I will only use one station that I have never had a bit of problem with.

Actually that happened to me with my Celica. I tightened the throttle cable and havent had a problem since. But it happened all of the sudden, so I would definately check it.
