View Full Version : GTS Engine - differentiating
i've recently brought my car into a body shop and left it there for a few days. it seems to feel "slower" now. i don't know if it's psychological and me being paranoid about them taking my 2002 GTS engine, but is there a way i can confirm whether my engine is really my engine aside from the plastic "VVTL-i" peice? thanks

I'm not positive, but I think your car's VIN number is stamped somewhere on the engine... Hopefully someone on here knows for sure though.

I don't know about the VIN, but you can also tell by the intake manifold. The GT has a black plastic one, while the GT-S has an aluminum one. They are not interchangeable between engines. The only other way I can think of at the moment is if you can take the engine up to at least 7800 RPMs. The GT can only go up to around 7000.
why would a body shop take your engine??

Because he is "paranoid"
Here are the two engines (http://www.radphys.com/DIAGRAM_ENGINE_SERIAL_NUMBER.gif)
what does the manifold look like?!?!
and yeah, i've taken it up to 7800 rpm
thats when teh gas shut off also kicks in
itjust doesn't feel as fast anymore
thanks!

Can you feel the second cam kick at 6000 RPMs? What exactly did the body shop do to your car, anyway?
Here are some pics of the engines:
GT-S

Notice that right in front of the plastic engine covers with VVTL-i and VVT-i there are four "tubes". That is the intake manifold. The GT-S is metal, the GT is plastic.
ahh i see! yeah mine are aluminium manifolds
thanks!
ok i just got my car back from the dealer, now the gas shut off seems to kick in at 7000rpm! it just don't go past 7000! (then again, i stopped gassing right when i heard the engine stressing like that)
i do feel the "jet engine" kick in at 6000 rpm
just that it only goes up to 7000 and after 7000 it seems to bounce at that rpm cuz of the gas shut off?
thanx for the help!

Well if its only going to 7000 then maybe you need to let the engine warm up.
also i think that at a stand still your car won't go past 7000 rpm either... drive it and see how far it goes.
