I have crower stage 3 cams and a Hass turbo kit on the way, and I have to drive 5 hours away to get my PFC tuned. Is there any safety map I could use for the drive there?
Or are there any tuning shops locally to Waldorf, MD

Nope. You're SOL. You're going to have to develop your own map. It honestly isn't that hard. Retard the cam, retard the ignition timing and make sure its rich enough.

and you wont be able to do that if you dont have a datalogit right?

No, you can make that work with a Commander.

hmm with just a commander and wideband you can make a base map? wat about without a wideband, because thats the scenerio im in

With a Commander you have access to the INJ, IGN and VVT maps, as well as some of the correction factors. You could certainly make the car runnable just messing with those. I wouldn't go so far as saying you could write a map, but you could definitely make the car run safely.
Realize that the FC Datalogit is not made by A'PEXi and didn't always exist. People used to tune cars with Commanders. You just have far more control and can make much better maps with the Datalogit.

This is good to know. So what functions does datalogit have that the commander would miss say for like map writing. Jesse, I have been like your mehatch lately, been learning all i can....

Adjust lift engagement and I think raise the rev limiter unlock a locked PowerFC... That is all I can think of right now. Commander is a tool that would be able to get you into most places, datalogit makes it all work easier and better.

The main thing is the Datalogit also lets you log runs - theres no function for that on the commander so its all done "on the fly"
Also you NEED a wideband - without it it is impossible to know what your actual A/F ratio is.
My advise to you is rent a pickup and a car hauler trailer from U-Haul for the day and tow that thing over there.

If you decide to drive it, make sure ign isnt too high, make your map richer to be on the safe side (quick adjustment of the overall inj on the commander) activate 02 feedback and drive it carefully. O2 feedback should take care of the AF while driving smoothly.

Yep.
The main bad thing about the Commander is no access to the Base Map. You also can't log, and only some of the correction factors are accessible from the Commander.

wat about this... drive it to mwr park the car and pop in the pfc, it should be quick install isnt i it just a plug and play. might be a little harder since i have the emange in there now, might have to solder back few wires.

Ummm dude hes going to have a turbo and larger injectors on the car at that point.
Whats the big deal with just renting a truck and trailer for the day to tow it out there?

maybe try to keep the car under 4k? when shifting and stuff...iono that might help

I think I need to make a Power FC FAQ sticky. I've realized that my other thread covers how to use a Datalogit, but assumes the user knows about the Power FC. Its become obvious that people don't seem to fully grasp the gravity of what a programmable engine management system is/does, or what the real capabilities of a Power FC are. It seems that people think a Power FC install is a power adder like an intake is. I keep seeing threads where people buy a Power FC but have no resources to even make sure the car is running safely, much less do any tuning.

I have a datalogit. I have never tuned a car with a turbo, nor have I ever driven one for that matter.

You'll notice in my Datalogit sticky that I say a wideband is MANDATORY for tuning.

Yep.... got that too

So if you have PFC/Datalogit/wideband, then get to it! You're honestly much better off going to a tuner with a good street tuned map already loaded.

Only problem is this tuner is the only one around and requires a $500 Power FC tune

So naturally, theres no point in me doing any of it except for a safety map in the mean time
Oh yea, and my turbo kit isn't here yet. Payment just went through yesterday

No. The better the street tune you start from, the better the final tune will be. You want to be making small adjustments when you go to the dyno, or you'll eat up all your time just trying to make the car run.

That's very fair. A good tune would take many hours. On very rough maps, I often spend hours on a single map revision.

They say 5 - 6 hours is the norm. Do you still think it will be a good tune?

Only if the guys is really good...
Personally I would drive the car with the kit and all the goodies in the trunk to C2Power authorized resaler EastCoast to do install and tune... They are in NJ which should not take too long to drive to from MD...

From an extremely rough PFC map, I doubt even the best tuner could get to what you're calling extensive in five hours.

They said "roughly 5 - 6 hours for tuning"
