Whats up guys,

I just got the pics developed of our "Boom Toys" Dodge Viper project car at work. We did alot of work on this puppy...everything is molded out of fiberglass, insane amount of hours for a show car!

Final word...the car's audio is powered by an Duron 600Mhz PC mounted in the rear (cant see it in pics since it was completely gutted for size and re-inforced for any impacts).

Here are some pics guys, comments welcome as we are constantly working on the car and trying to make it better. :)

Here is the what the trunk looked like originally in the Viper:

Then here are the rest in no particular order...

And here are some of the finished product...notice the "fishtank" effect as we made plexiglass plates that fit inbetween the amps and the fiberglass mold. Water running through them with the bubbles...looks awesome in person. :)

Check out your local shops...first and foremost, go into the install bay and actually talk to the installers. Look at their work, portfolio etc...

If you were to come to my shop...making a mold for 2 12" with room for an amp would run you in the neighbourhood of 5-6 hours labour..plus supplies.

Figure shop rate of around $50/hour you are looking at around $300 for the mold, and another $50 in parts. I wouldnt expect shops to charge you anymore than that...unless you want to get real carried away!

In the next couple of months I will be making a mold for my trunk...something not so flashy..but at the same time "cool". I need to make a mold for my 10" Triangle sub along with the NX bottle back there. :)

Should be a fun project!

Wow! That's nuts! How much does all that weight? Not that it matters in a Viper. ;)

I'm gonna need to mount a hard drive in the back of my car, and I need to make sure the way I mount it is safe the first time. I've heard stories of hard drives crashing over big bumps in the road.

Also, how did you go about keeping it cool? I'm sure it will bake in the summer being in the trunk...

Weight...I dont even want to try to figure that one out yet!! With the computer, I surrounded the entire computer with this foam I have in the shop. Its about 4" thick...goes all around. With the harddrive...that itself is mounted in the glove box in its own re-inforced enclosure. I am pretty sure a big enough bump will do damage...but this car is just a show car. It gets driven maybe 5-6times a year on normal roads...every other time its sitting pretty in car shows etc....

As for cooling, we have a small hole behind the "case" of the computer that gets vented out of the car...but we are still having problems with the setup. I can usually get a solid 5-6 hours out of it without a problem...then things start freezing up a tad. At that point we just shut down the comp for 30mins or so.

Ack...Ya I know...heh...

Check out the www.google.com search engine and look for:

MP3 car audio

It should help you out..there's tons of user sites out there created specifically for computer/car combos. Sorry, bud.

Thanks for the comments guys! The installer at work put sooo much work into it...glad people like it!

The car is going to have a 4 page feature and be on the cover of Performance Auto & Sound magazine in either July or August...

I think it's the combination of the rubber spacers and the fact that your hard drive is mounted almost vertically that it has lasted so long. Also because you have it mounted closer to the center of the car than Fourgig does.

I'm still interested in that CD changer adpater you got. How much did it cost again? I was reading some of Fourgig's posts and he has the same thing for his computer.

that is... beautiful work, two very big thumbs up

btw.. have you thought about putting the pc into liquid nitrogen to keep it cooled? one of my friends computers has the motherboard dipped in it to keep it cool, since its non-conductive
