View Full Version : How to remove front seats...also any way to lower them?

I'm sure it's easy as hell, just want to make sure theres nothing I screw up, since the seats are kind of important and all...had a nasty spill in the rear carpet, and I just can't get it cleaned well enough under the seat without removing it...mold is growing and I need to clean or replace the carpet before it gets any worse.

Also, I'm a tall guy, and my legs are basically up on the wheel. The tilt wheel does not tilt nearly high enough, it's like the highest setting is the lowest on other cars...I cant swing the wheel all the way around with one hand, it'll hit my legs and stop the wheel. The seat adjustment just brings the back of the seat down, which does nothing for the height of my knees...need to bring the front down somehow.

The seats basically sit on the floor as is. :chuckles:

Removing the seat is as simple as it seems, just remove the two bolts on the front of the sliders, and the 2 on the rear. BE CAREFUL putting the seat back in! Make sure the bolts are lined up right and not cross threaded. The stock bolts are very weak, and I've snapped one off on my passenger seat. As for the lowering, I feel your pain. I'm 6'4", so I know what you mean about the wheel being kind of low. Don't really think there's anything that can be done though.

Ya, figured it was just that, but wanted to make sure.

The wheel really is ridiculously low though...it's like it's built for japanese girls only.

yeah no wheel hitting the leg issues here. but I'm just short of 6'.

aftermarket steering wheel that is smaller? have you considered that option?

If you ever go with aftermarket seats, you could make yoru own brackets and do it with a lower resting position than OEM. I've seen it done in other cars before, but not a celica so i dont know for sure if there is even any room to improve on under there.

Is that with the steering wheel tilted all the way up and driver seat adjusted to its lowest setting?

Wow. :D
