They just passed Dodge as the #3 brand in sales in the US.
For all this talk about how much Toyota is ****ing up with their product line, seems like they know what they are doing. And their market share is increasing.
I guess they don't need to make a turbo AWD Celica and a Supra to capture US sales.

Big east coast thing.....when I would go back to NY in the late 80's and early 90's, I only saw a couple of Accords and Camrys in a two week time period.
Things have changed A LOT since then!

It's due to their trucks, Camry's and Corrola sales. I'm glad that Toyota's are getting more plentiful cause the parts would be easier to find in a junk yard if you needed something.

#1 is Ford, Chevy is 2. They broke it down by brand and not the actual complete companies. Daimler-Chrysler is still about 5%ahead of Toyota/Lexus. The little article was commenting on how Toyota could become one of the Big Three :) I think the blurb was in Motor Trend.

True, but their sales in the MOST coveted demographic (18 to 35 yr olds) aren't where they want it to be and they're fully aware of that. They really don't know how to market to younger people effectively. They've shown that with the Celica. However, they sure know how to hook the middle-aged crowd with the Camry.

GM is No. 1 Ford is No. 2 Daylmer Chrysler is still No. 3 Toyota could be No.3 if they keep increasing sales.

Jason got it right on, Toyota is poised to jump over DC for the number three spot. If the trend continues (both Toyota, flat for cars way up for trucks, and DC, down for everything) Toyota should probably overtake DC in 18 months to 2 years. There is some indication that the new Ram trucks may help DC turn around their lagging sales and you have to admit a car like the Neon SRT4 could certainly help draw in 18-35 year old males.

DC is "imports R us". Mostly imports here, I would say a majority of the cars.

Around TN, it's "trucks R us." With Chevy and Ford trucks parked on every driveway.

well DC has lost money as a company, so yes there is the potential for Toyota to take the #3 spot and become part of the "big three", then again, DC takes <1 to go from concept to production......

Contrary to popular belief, Honda has always been a much smaller car company than those others mentioned here. They have very few models, compared with these other companies, and therefore don't have those big sales numbers. In other parts of the country, they aren't all that common. However, here in So Cal, they're everywhere.

i actually did a research essay on toyota versus american car companies. Yes, toyota is creeping up on Daimler chrysler. I do believe that DC had 11.something% and toyota had a close 10.+%. They are probably going to take over as the 3rd in the big three. I did this paper for school b/c i live in motor city and there's somewhat of a deeper battle btwn. imports and domestics since domestics take home the paychecks for practically everyone here. Almost everyone here is associated with the domestic car companies in someway, so they hate it when u drive to work in an import. Needless to say, the workers at my dad's job jock my ride :D

Yup, you got that right. Look how many goddamn SUVs Toyota/Lexus has. Rav4, Sienna, 4Runner, Sequoia, Land Cruiser, RX300, LX470......did I leave anything out? One reason Toyota is jumping up here in the states is because they are huuuuuuuge compared to a lot of other import companies (Nissan is quite big however).
