Im looking for a suspension for my 00 GTS 6 speed (it feels really soft - softer than I remember my 00 GT being), and I want to know what you guys have ran and how you like it. Ive searched and read some stuff, but I really want to get as many opinions in here as I can before making a commitment to suspension. Thats pretty important IMO.

Running the Tein-SSP's (with stock sways, etc, etc) on an 03 GTS. Love it. Very responsive, damper and height adjustable, good for daily driving and autoX.

Thx Hwanger. Anyone else? What shock/spring combo do you guys have? Come on everyone I know some of you have some suspension work done.

are you looking at using coilovers or are you going for a shock/spring setup?

I'm running:
Tein HA Coilovers w/Cusco Front Pillow ball mounts
Hotchkis Comp sways front and rear
TRD rear strut bar
Carbign front strut bar
Cusco Front Underbrace
Brashboy Side Fender Braces
Autopower 6pt Roll Cage

....my ride is stiff as hell.

I want to use shocks and springs.

I was looking at tokiko illuminas or KYB AGXs or the GR1s(the OEM type replacement) with some sort of springs as well.

kyb agx's seem to be the preferred choice. They are 4 way adjustablel, i had them on my hotchkis and set to 4 all around, ride was rough as hell. I hear 1-2 settings are pretty soft but firm. If you want a good spring i woudl go with the tein s-techs, a little softer than the hotchkis.

Before i went with full coilovers i had the agx with the sportlines...yes i know the shocks are meant to handle that low of a drop but for the time i had it, i had no problems with it at all. Had mine set at 2-3 and just had a trd rear strut bar at the time...very nice for the streets.

See guys and I come from a place (I know MR2s like the back of my hand) where KYB AGXs are pretty much garbage. On the SW20 MR2 the AGXs are the crappiest shock (short of the GR2s) you can get. The Konis are the best, the Illuminas are below it and the AGXs are low rate garbage.

Over here everyone talks the AGXs up and its hard for me to escape the mindset of the MR2 world in relation to the AGXs.

The problem with those shocks on an MR2 is the ride is VERY harsh. And the dampers cant bound and rebound fast enough and smooth enough to keep it from being choppy and bouncy. My buddy has AGXs with H&R springs, and the drop is like 2.25 or so, its quite a bit, and it sits low and looks nice, but his **** is so choppy and bouncy when you are braking sometimes the suspension makes the ABS kick in... This is on a 91 MR2 Turbo.

I dont like that setup at all. So you guys with AGXs, whats the ride quality compared to stock? Its my understanding the damper and spring if done properly should still ride relatively smooth, it should just feel like a sports car, low to no body roll, nice transitions, but not like tooth chattering bounciness.

How about the Illuminas? Im leaning toward them because they get good reviews on the MR2 board, but again, Ive also read the honda guys like AGXs. I just really wonder what they could have screwed up so bad on the MR2 application but got right on the Celicas.

Sorry to be a pain in the ass, but thanks for the discussion guys. Keep the ideas coming :)

maybe agx's arent good on a mid engine car :)

but as far as shock quality my impression is koni, kyb agx, tokico blues/kyb gr2.

i dont know anyone with the illuminas on their celica, so i cant place them. Trd sportivo uses tokico blues i think.

It just seems they messed up the valving or something on that application.

I wonder if theres anyone around where I live with some suspension setups. I would feel so much better driving a car with one and getting an impression.

I still just have no idea what to chose. Becuase of my experience with AGX I couldnt buy em and use em without having tried em. Illuminas I have no experience with. GARR its so tough sometimes :(

I'm running what's in my sig...Really stiff according to my friends who ride shotgun, but it works for me in the canyon, cruising, during open track events. Kinda wish I went with the Teins like everyone else, but oh well.

I have GR-2 and S-techs.... I love it for an everyday driver. Nice ride, yet still handles well.

Koni shocks on stock springs. It's great.

There is another fairly current thread called "List your spring and shock setup" or somehting close to it.

I didnt realize you had a celica luni, how is the mr2 doing? Nobody rarely buys tokico shocks here, and if they do, it will most likely be the blues. The other thread they mentioned is further down, I was reading it earlier. I am looking to get shocks and springs too, but I am trying to decide between the tokico hp and kyb gr2, any comments guys? I want something temporarily, till I can buy coilovers.
Overall, I think most people on this board have coilovers.

I got hotchkis street springs with the competition sway bars, 17" wheels with kumho ecsta mx tires. I like the setup a lot and really improved the handling without breaking the bank.
