Nope, not a Yaris.... :(
Although I was really looking forward to owning such a ...umm... interesting vehicle.
My Fiancee and I are purchasing a 98 Civic EX Coupe, Yippy Skippy. In pretty good condition, 129k, Dark Green, 5 speed, with all the goodies. $3700.....
We haven't bought it as of yet, but we are in the process of getting the money together. Now the only problem is figuring out why the owner is selling it for so little below KBB value. In good condition it's listed as ~$5200 with that mileage.
It ran well and felt solid while I drove it. But it did feel underpowered for a 130hp car. Have I just been so pampered with "teh trubo" that I am thinking there might be something wrong with the car? Also I have never driven a Honda with 'vtec' so I have no idea what it should sound like under WOT. I really really do not want to buy another car that I have to work on.

VTEC sounds like it gets louder... thats it. I only really feel VTEC in my friend's Type-R and S2000. Another friend of mine has a B16 (slightly less than the GSR) and I barely feel VTEC... just gets louder.
Yes, you probably are spoiled going from a trUbo car to a Civic. 129k miles seems a little high...

I assume this will be her car? Why not just have her rock the supra??? ;)

that might be the retail dealership value at what they would sell it for. Dealer prolly only offered them 3g's for it and so they r prolly trying to get more sellin it on their own.
I remember when we sold my bros 97 altima with 50k, dealer would only give us 5g's and so we sold it on our own for $5,500.00. Dealers always try to lowball people, its the way of life.

You're a funny man Mr. Smith
The Supra isn't a good winter car and it's on the bottom of my list of things to fix

I don't imagine your porker of an audi gets the best gas mileage. :(
You'd look very cute in a "Fit"
I really really do not want to buy another car that I have to work on. Then why are you considering buying something with that high a mileage?? Duh...

its just a sohc vtec in the EX model, there is no high cam switch over like the dohc versions(GSR, SI, etc...) if it did have vtec, its just like the gts switchover

Fiancee and her father were against buying new as we could only expect to afford the payments untill she goes back to PA school in a year. I figure hondas are pretty easy to work on so if I do have to do anything it shouldn't anger me like the Golf did.
Damn its hot
Can't you find something w/lower mileage? Not that Hondas are bad... they're right up there with Toyos for longevity now. Your not looking for performance.... could go the bullet proof way & get a used Camry.... or Matrix/'rolla (you already have the requisite engine experience ;) )
There's a nifty place right on the Seabrook line that deals expressly in stolen & salvage rebuilds.... you can get some really high end stuff for good prices...like BMW's & Mercedes & no one will know the difference... & if anything happens to it... it won't break your heart being a salvage.

We only need the car to last about 4 years untill she's out of school. She doesn't put much mileage on her vehicle and I don't think 130k is too bad. I think it's a viable option unless I find something wrong with it the next time I look at it.
Now a salvage title vehicle is just crazy talk.
Now a salvage title vehicle is just crazy talk.
My Celica carries a salvage title.... it isn't as crazy as you'd think... if you found a decent car that had no mechanical damage... just body or interior vandalism that's been repaired... your buying it for the engine.... which is why I bought the Celica salvage w/only 36K miles on the mechanicals...
Hi-Octane's has been body repaired, as well... but doesn't carry a salvage title for some reason.
I know... I was hesitant.... but it's turned out just fine... only trouble was lift bolts (which was totally unrelated to the salvage)... but @ 36K...it was still under warranty;).... another reason I had less fears... it was tough to argue w/$4-5K under BlueBook... and I ended up w/a brand new head from Toyota :D
But, yes, 4yrs @ under 20K per yr... the Honda should last to 200K.

Its not so much the fact that it's salvaged as the potential amount of time and money I may have to invest. And as of right now I don't have much time....and money...well :)
I've got a huge amount of unfriendly automotive work to do on the truck and supra. No more projects for me!!!!!!

I thought the EX was a DOHC. But anyway....
I remember someone meantioning the intake and exhaust sound of a vtec equipped honda being "unique". Which this car seemed to be. I just want to make sure everything sounds like it should. It would probably be a good idea for me to go test drive another ex model of the same year somewhere.

I believe the EX is a SOHC VTEC. Unique? I don't know about that. It really just seems like your motor is simply getting louder.

I've been considering buying a high-milage Civic as a commuter car for a while. Let me know how it works out for ya (maintenance-wise)...

Forrest Gump Green. LOL
Its not so much the fact that it's salvaged as the potential amount of time and money I may have to invest. What time? They do the rebuild & sell 'em... I didn't do much of anything to the Celica... other than get the liftbolt issue squared away... Thank Goodness for this board!!! or I wouldn't have known to check..... change fluids.... and install a Gatorback... I've since put on 34K since buying it last year.... up to about 70K now... & still on the stock clutch.
Just don't fart can the Honda....
Actually... my son may be selling his delSlo..... B16 VTEC swap..... but should be re-painted..... bet she'd like that....

Hey Eric, there is a nice Honda for sale that I saw tonight in Fitchburg. I don't know what they are asking but I am sure it doesn't have thousands and thousands of miles on it.

i figured a moped is:
1) not very portable (can't carry it somewhere and ride there)
2) not easily storable (i live in an apt)
3) would take about 3 years to pay off for itself if i exclusively used it to commute year-round (assuming the thing would last that long)
now i'm pondering about either a gas or electric scooter.
http://www.extremescooters.biz/images/xtr-09_lg.gif
gas:
1) cheaper initially ($260)
2) faster / more powerful (tackles hills better)
3) longer range
but -
4) noisy (2 cycle)
5) not easily refueled (gas/oil mix)
6) refueling more expensive over time
http://www.extremescooters.biz/images/xtr-20_lg.gif
electric:
1) quiet
2) cheaper to refuel (pennies for electricity)
but -
3) shorter range
4) not as powerful (my commute has a lot of hills)
5) more expensive initially ($325)
Now I can turn my wife into a ricer
So she can out chase you, too????
Almost sorry I insulted you earlier... I wouldn't be from MA if I didn't do that... you just happened to be the lucky candidate that day ;)
