I'm looking for pics/suggestions on installing an LCD in the dash above the radio. I've seen the pics of the JDM dashes and they look sick, but i don't want to spend that kind of money. So please, if you've done it, post a pic. If you have suggestions on how to do it, let me know!

heres a pic of my setup:

http://members.aol.com/flipnasia/hondaland3.jpg

its the whole Eclipse multimedia setup (7in. widescreen, dvd player headunit, center channel, and digital sound processor). the three chrome knobs are the headunit are a/v plugs so i can plug in a playstation or my vcd player (i didnt wanna permanantly install a ps2 or anything in the car so thats why i had those plugs put there).

hope this all helps... good luck!

Blue Bomber are you gonna take that door off?

Nope, I'm keeping it there for when I park my car. I don't need anyone looking in, seeing an LCD, and wondering what else I've got in there. The whole center console will be painted in the end, though. Plus, the door might block the sun during the day.

good luck with the door still staying up with the added weight of the paint... its not that big of a deal but something probably will have to be done to it.

i love that first one with the speaker on the top. very nice. needs indiglos and the black piece painted white though. that would make it look even better. the lcd inside the door is great for security though.

=P what kind of paint are you thinking about thats gonna weigh the door down. mine stays up just the same as it did before i got it painted.

I did have to sand off the little bump on the end of the door to get around the screen, so the door does wobble over bumps. Don't worry, I'll find a way to keep the door open. ;)

well it depends how much you open and close the door. i've heard some people's door won't stay open just because the spring wore out. i know some people w/ the carbon fiber dash kit wore out the spring and it won't stay open either. i'm just saying if you paint it, and you have an lcd in there, which means you'll be opening it a lot more, it'll probably wear out and not stay open and it'll be a pain. but i'm sure something could be done to it.

It's the background image for my DVD/MP3/VCD/MPG/JPG/basically anything you can throw at it player. With most Apex players, you can alter the firmware through a CD. I've also upgraded it to display more letters in a filename (21 vs 11), plus added a 6 GB hard drive. :D

i changed the spring for my door.....the carbonfiber piece forreal weighed it down...so i just contorted a tightly coiled spring into the shape of the original spring:

Puckymon, that ****z dope, Im suprised no one gave you props for that. I love that big screen, also the others are great too, Is there a how to do page where you guys put up all the info on how to do it? That audio video outlet is kinda a bad positioning for it though.. I would of put it on the side or somewhere out of sight, but convient, just doesn't look nice when you plug it in, still I like that big screen, so I wanna do something like that where can i find step to step on how to do this? any of it? or do u just go with gut instinct and cut glue and wire everything that you need to make it look right? Need more info on how to do everything and problems you guys ran into, if any THANKS

I thought of just making a cover for it out of the leftover door, but I figured would be annoying having to take the cover off and put it somewhere that it wouldn't be scratched. So I picked up another center console used for $50 and worked with it till it looked like the pic above. :)

Now I need to work on the hardware side of it...

It's an Apex AD660-8MM DVD/MP3 player. You can upgrade its firmware and logo screen through CDs with other player's firmware. The latest player they've released (Sampo 631CF) has an IDE compact flash card slot. The DVD drives in all of their players are regular computer IDE drives, so you can just put in a dual connection IDE cable, attach a hard drive (set to slave), install the 631CF firmware, and the player will recognize it. You should also be able to use Iomega Zip and Jaz drives with the player.
