well i lost my keyless entry remote, and was looking at the install guide for a new one on the isntall section. i have a 2000 celica gt-s, and i was wondering which remote it has. is there any way to find out without knowing whether or not it has the red led on the top? i cant remember because i lost it more then a month ago. so im wondering how do you tell the difference between a VIP alarm and a RS3200 alarm system in the celi.
thanks all
They are both VIP (Vehicle Intrusion Protection) ... one is the 3200+ (Plus)... which fits models equipped with factory keyless entry system only.
The features are pretty much the same... but have different ECU's.
Do you remember if there was a Panic button on the back side of the remote? That will tell you if you need a 3 button or a 2 button (the other difference, besides the LED) ;)

yea there was a panic button on the back of the remote. i thought both remotes had panic buttons though? so i guess since there is a panic button, that makes it a remote with the led light. thanks for the help

Unless Toyota made special remotes for the Celica, there is a panic button on the back of both remotes. Friend has a 2000 Camry with no alarm and his remote has a panic button. Also, try posting your VIN#, there's a couple of people that can look it up for you here.
Go look @ the install thread... there are several possible remotes... but a RS3200 appears to require a 3 button w/LED. The Factory Keyless Entry is usally only a 2 button (no panic) w/o a LED.

Roger that. However, I've rented a couple of Toyotas (including a Celica GT) and have friends with the Factory keyless entry system, all of them have the 3 button remote minus the red light. I've only seen the red light on VIP RS3200 equipped Celicas though, so I'll agree with you on that distinction.

You're correct. I should take my own advice... I, also, re-read my post in that thread... they both are 3 button... & the difference is the LED..... My confusion came from an earlier post that was in error: "BUTTON: 2 (2 front & 1 back)" Somebody can't do math...
