Anyways ive had my celica for 2 years now but it is 4 years old (2002) and ive never had to get it smogged. I thought you have to get your car smogged every 2 years, or you get 4 years if you just bought it brand new. I live in california (strict CARB laws) and have not had to get it smogged so far. My basic question is Anyone here have a turbo and still pass the smog checks? And if so what do you take out the whole engine and put everything stock for the check? or do you have other tricks? :naughty: Anyways any information on having a smog illegal car and getting/making it to pass smog checks would be appreicated. You can either leave me a post/pm or email me at Lyth0s@yahoo.com.

O and how often do we californians have to get our car smogged? cause its defintly been at least 2 years for me...

Out here in colorado as long as you have a cat you can just jam your waste gate open so you never make boost and put back in your OBDII ecu and you're good to go, you're basically back to stock anyways by doing this HP wise and emissions wise. Or if you're smart you register your car in the mountains and you never have emissions =). CA may be a different story tho. Hope that helps.

Oh interesting, im going to have to look further into registering my car in the mountains and see if it is the same laws as colorado =) and defintly going to keep my stock ecu for the OBDII readings. As for jamming the waste gate open, i **believe** they do a full visual inspection of the engine bay to make sure everything is CARB approved w/exemption stickers, but im not sure about that. Do you guys have to have CARB approved/exemptions on all your aftermarket engine parts in colorado?

BTW thx for the info man. :chuckles:

get the car smogged before you get the turbo installed. then if you can find a good smog guy, he wont look too thurough on the inspection. they basically look for the EGR and CARB stickers. i have seen pleanty of cars pass with a fake CARB sticker on their turbo kit. as long as you are running on the stock ECU and have your CAT's then you will pass the emissions part.

if you have family in another state like CO or TX, get your residence there, change your plates, insurance card, and drivers license. then no problems...

I am not famailar with EGR, but ill keep the CARB stickers in mind. Does the CARB sticker just go on the actual turbo or somewhere else?

^^Not as many as you think. There was a crack down on this, a lot of shops was closed down because of it, now most of them are afraid to do this.

I may just do a Vegas trip or Grand Canyon trip open a mailbox account at The UPS Store, register my car there and then forward all my mail to Cali.
