I'd like to do reverse indiglo gauges, blue LED's, with red needles, but I'd like to retain the ability to return the car to stock condition if I ever decide to sell the car. So I purchased a compatible salvaged Celica gauge cluster unit off of eBay for $24.00.

My question is if I do the gauge and LED mods to the eBay gauge cluster unit and plug it into my car what happens with the mileage?

Is the mileage data stored in the gauge unit, the ECU, or someplace else?

Anyone have any knowledgeable opinions on this subject?

I've done the same as you. Mileage is stored in cluster unit so once new one is installed you'll be racking up miles on the new one, not the old so, technically falsifying the mileage of the car, but who's to know eh? :p:

Toyota can set the mileage for you if you bring the cluster

Get it set so you don't get nailed for mileage fraud

What everyone said, it's stored on the gauge cluster....
