Hi All! Has anyone had any problems with water getting into their CAI? I'm planning to get one installed next week and I'm somewhat concerned about this. I know a couple of guys duct tape the air vents on the plastic wheel wells. Any chance of water getting in via the front (ie. fog light area) and where should the 'Water shield' for the CIA face, back or front?

Let's put it this way. I don't have any duct tape. I removed my fog lights so water and rain have a clear path to my filter and I still haven't had hydrolock problems. I don't have a water shield either. Just be alert in wet conditions and you should be okay. Throw it in neutral if you see a big puddle :o

yea unless you go into like a 2 foot deep puddle.....you'll be okay. i have been.

even worse, when i hit a rabbit it tore off the wheelwell cover that was over the filter, and ive driven in th worst rain storms here and no problems to date.

No problems here.

Beware of potholes or the other option is to make a shield.

Good luck!

Nothing to worry about. I have no ductape and have a Blitz front and the CAI is clearly seen in the open space.

I would recommend you get the splash shield, just for safety measures. I've been in some crazy rain storms, and have a buddy club kit, so my front is more accessible then stock and have had no probs. Was scared as hell cause I've driven through some incredibly nasty storms the past month here in NJ.

I just went through a storm this past weekend stressed out beyond all belief, but nothing happened....I was extremely impressed....I thought I was done.

I got my CAI about two months ago about a month later i got an air bypass valve just to eliminate any chances of hydro-lock.........."I dont worry anymore."

If you have the AEM bypass, I've heard/read a lot about it not working for the celica (no vertical straight section long enough) and you can still hydrolock if your intake sucks up enough water. If you're not going to worry, you should still be cautious.

I have heard the same things about the air bypass, but i am still very cautious......before i wouldnt even think about driving in the rain, but now rain dosnt bother me....besides i live in Texas...we dont get all that much rain anyways.

I've had my AEM CAI for 6 months, no problems with water so far. Just to be careful try to avoid large oceans of water.
