First off let me say i don't plan on putting ITB's on my car and this is not a thread asking how to put them on a celica...so...with that out of the way we were putting ITB's on my friend's ITR civic and he asked me if putting the ITB's in a plenum would yield more power from a turbo system than just the turbo system alone (similar to a skyline engine)....so now I'm asking you, thanx :wiggle:

Yeah, ITBs on a turbo will yield power gains if the plenum is designed properly. You also have to tap into the head itself for a vacuum source and run it to a vacuum tank/rail so you can power the brake booster, boost gauges, etc.

Technically, yes. Probably, no. Again its one of those things where you can't just throw parts at something and expect it to make power because its "magic" ITB's. Your friend's money would be way better spent elsewhere unless what he's doing is a proven setup.

Do ITB's actually improve air-flow and therefore performance, I thought they just gave much better throttle response thanks to the multiple small throttles? :shrugs:

Most ITBs are around 20-40mm a piece. Most TBs are 45-80mm.
4x20mm ITBs is 80mm worth of air itself. They CAN flow more, but you could always put a bigger single TB on. They are more efficient than a standard single TB though and DEFINATELY improve the throttle response.

^ yea that's basically what I told him (Jesse) there would really be no way for me to know if I made a good plenum...i could guess, but when it came down to welding the sheet metal I would have no way of knowing whether or not I was actually getting the right airflow....ok that being said, is there any way I could put a larger TB on my car? What kind of complications would there be and what would I have to do in terms of tuning?
