Is the prelude worth getting. I was thinking about getting a 97-00 one. or should i go with the 00 celica gts.

Depends on what you want. Pretty much everyone here is going to tell you the GT-S. I'd say go for the GT-S its the better performer hands down. Nothing aganist the Prelude people just the straight facts.

prelude - more weight, more torque, more interior space, nice looking rear end
celica - less weight, harder pull in lift, less interior space, nice looking front end
performance wise, the gt-s supposedly has the edge due to the lightness of the car. however, the prelude is somewht more practical and rides alot smoother. the fact is, you're not going wrong with either ride.

The Celica is much more practical with its hatchback design and better rear seat room.
The Prelude is a well built car although it may not be as fast as a Celica.

If its the SH, you really may want to consider it. Those things handle liek crazy. Test drive them both though. You know what you need in terms of practicality, and the prelude is pretty small in terms of space for its frame. Test drive them both, and get the one you like. The test drive does it all.

I like it, though when I drive my friend's base Lude it feels like driving a boat back-to-back with the Celica. And I can't stand that clutch.

:werd: I cant stand honda clutched really. they grab too high for my taste, even the S2K.

I have a friend who has a Prelude and it is fast bone stock. I think the GT-S would be a tad faster though. Anyways, I recommend you test drive both before you make your decision.

preludes are nice and have more aftermarket than us. My bro has one and the only thing i dont like is the clutch. It feels more torquey but bulky also. Prelude interiors are plain tho

i think the preludes clutches are notchy i mean my ex-gurl has one and its like section one of smooth clutch nothing section 2 grab and section 3 release its like that on all the preludes i went to dealer and SH and base models are the same....
Side: my friend who works at the honda dealer says there are now 13 Civic si and none of them have been sold since they go on the dealer and the price with mark up is $27k

$27K for a Civic Si? They must be smoking crack cause you can get a base 350Z, a Matrix with a sh*tload of aftermarket stuff, or Spec V with mods for that much. I wouldn't pay over $20K for an Si.

prelude=one of the best FF car ever made or something like that....(heard from friend)
seriously tho... that body style with the kind of power it has... it really should have been an FR.
as for me, i wouldnt get one... never liked the way it looked, and its the last of its kind... no more prelude. ur better off getting a GTS IMHO..... the hatch is actually quite roomy... i fit luggage in the hatch and 2 computer boxes in my rear seats.... (pass. side door has to be down though) celica is versatile thats for sure.
test drive both, see what u like more and feel more comfortable with. although..... for the GTS be sure to take it up at around 6.8k for the full effect. :chuckles: (25 shot of nos...without the nos)

did anyone mention an interior straight out of 1983 for the prelude...

i'd take the celica over the lude in a heartbeat for out fo the box performance, and styling, and then pocket the 5 grand difference and put it into a 5.0 for drag.

Go drive both and see what works for you. The Prelude has more HP, but weighs more too. Quartermile for both cars is pretty close. Both handle very well too. The Prelude engine has a lot of potential with it's 2.2L displacement and plentiful aftermarket. Both are nice cars.

i was thinking about getting a prelude back when i was looking for a new car, back in 00'. the only thing that pull'd me away from the prelude, was the price. the dealer's that i talk'd to want'd 27-28k for a new 00' prelude. that was a tad out of my price range at the time. the preludes are a sweet car, i have driven almost ever gen prelude, and the sh is a very smooth car. but, the lift of the celica, and the look of the car sold me. but like what everyone says, test drive both. you cant go wrong with either ride.

Never cared for a Prelude and not gonna miss it!!!

The Prelude has better midrange punch and a linear power curve. The seats are very nice on the prelude, the interior material is 10 times smoother than the Celica, but don't look as good. I think the lude is much quieter too.

A used prelude cost around 8 to 10 grand but a gts costs around 16 to 20 and I don't have that much money for a gts.

I have owned both cars, and like them both in differenct ways.
I am currently diving a 4th Gen Prelude VTEC with some work done to it. I am only driving it couse I ran into trouble with my Celica at a road course and my dealer couldn't fix the problem, and no one could tell me what to do about it. but to make this shorter than it should be, the Celica handled a bunch bette stock than the prelude(after market cured most of that) The Celica is more balanced than the Prelude. Acceleration feels a bit stronger in the Prelude. Overall laptimes for me have dropped in the Prelude. And I am getting more reliability out of the Prelude.
so depending on what your planning on doing with the car could determine which one you want to go with.
anyways hope this helps a bit.....

Not new it wasn't. The Prelude was going for $2k more than I paid for my ITR.

Agreed.
What lot were you (3.2 TL) lookin at? We were at a honda dealership a few months back ... this dealership had about 4-5 bran new 'ludes and every single one was AT LEAST 25k. some were 26/27k.

Huh? what year? 97? How many miles? are you talking about the previous gen?
wu2001ok

Its a 97-99 prelude the average miles are 60-80k.
totally different... I mean you have a used 00 celica gts with maybe 30k miles vs a 97-99 prelude with 60-80k miles... :gay:
screw that ****

Yup, yup... plus you can get a Jackson Racing Supercharger for it and be puttin' out around 240 hp.. that'll make up the speed difference real quick.. :D

True, although it is still a Honda.. my Type SH has 68k miles on it now and still no problems and it runs and pulls hard as ever.. there are folks who have '97 Preludes with 180,000 miles on 'em with no major problems (and still on the stock clutch!!)
Bottom line is that you really can't go wrong either way. It's all just a matter of taste.
