Still finishing the TSB-based replacement of Lift Bolts.

I'm to the point of putting the chain tensioner back in. The TSB has you press the plunger all the way into the body of the tensioner and use the hook to hold the plunger inside.

OK, great. Got it.

Then install back into the engine.

OK, great. Got it.

Now rotate the crank pully counter-clockwise.

OK, great. Got it.

Now, release the hook.

WTF? HOW? It's down in the engine. It may be open-air down in there but I can't see it nor get to it with a screwdriver or anything.

Who has done this and how have they done it successfully?

THANKS! Would love to get this project finished this weekend since the things been sitting for months now ... *Laugh*

Push on the back chain guide or just turning the engine it usually releases on its own.I can see the one in my engine, it is at 5 notches at 100k miles.

Usually, when you turn the crank back, it will kick back, push the plunger in and release the hook. It will then push the plunger forward and put tension on the chain. You can get a screwdriver down there, or a finger. I've done this many a times.

I've done this procedure probably 20 times in the past month on my car, lol.

The TSB says to push it counter-clockwise to do exactly this. It should release the hook. However, I've never even had to. If you turn the crank clockwise (normal), it should still release. I've never had a problem with it. Are you sure it's loose? You can tell by looking down under the exhaust cam. If the tensioner is out, it will be obvious due to the position of the tensioner slipper.
