Hi, my name is josh, and well, i purchased a 00 toyota celica gt-s a few months back. i was talking to the past owner and he told me that he never ever put a tank of premium in it. (>.<) anything i should look out for? well, to tell u the truth, ive been having problems with it, it happend to me once when the car failed to downshift to 2nd gear, and just yesterday, i was in 3rd gear@8100 rpm tried to shift to 4th but didnt go in, tried again and this time it went to and and i heard gears crunch up or something. my car sounded as if it was underwater when trying to start. it no longer started, so i towed the car home because it just didnt turn on. mechanic says the clutch is bad and that me and him are gonna rip it all out because i must of dislocated some chain preventing the engine to fully start. (some sort of transmission problems) and it was making this weird noise, kinda like those liltle insects at night that dont let u sleep, i cant remember what they are called. ill post pics and hello to everyone.

Wow what a dumb previous owner. Just to save $3 or so isn't worth damaging the engine. I guess he beat the crap out of the car since the syncros are going. It'll be $1700 to $1800 for the new transmission since the syncros makes it grind before putting it in gear. And as for the clutch, I guess that's the problem. Dunno what else to tell you but have everything checked out & bring everythin up to stat before pushing it yourself.

it has only grinded twice, each time for about 1 second. i dont think i damaged the transmission, at least i hope not. like i said me and the scientist will be ripping it appart tommorow and checking for damages.

If it doesn't grind often at low rpms, but grinds & prevents you from shifting at high rpms, it's still a syncros problem. I could shift from 2nd to 3rd at 2,000 rpm, but not after 3,000 rpms without grinding. I suggest you just save up for a new tranny and stick Redline MT-90 gear oil in there. I'll be doing this once my warranty is up in Feb 08. Toyota gave me a new transmission under warranty. Putting foreign gear oil voids your warranty on the transmission, but I guess yours is already up.

mechanic said i must of derailed the chain, and that most likely ill be needing a new clutch. ill be checking for otherthings such as timming issues or if i bent a valve.

Your tranny doesn't have a chain its all geared. unless hes on about the timming cam chain in the engine left hand side if that has come off then you are looking at mega problems possibly new engine. Good luck thou hope its not too serious.

will this work instead of the default air filter?

but in the default there are connections, does it matter?

EDIT:
as for the car, i opened it up today, and just as i thought. the last person that did the clutch work did a horrible job at it. they didnt screw in the flywheel screws and left it loose. now the screws were cut off completly, i now have to find a ****ing way of removing it away from the trans or unscrewing the trans away from the engine and taking the trans to a machine shope see if they can do it for me with special tools. and it turns out that it wasnt just because of my driving. cheap ass **** they put in the car:

Youre gonna have to use a reverse tap set drill the centres out of the flywheel bolts to retrieve the shank else try to hit around or use one of those bite in drill bits.

so does anyone know if that airfilter will work?

it might....but it doesn't have the MAF, butterfly valve, or any of the vacuum lines on it, so even if it runs, it wont run good.

this really sucks... i just put back everything, got a new clutch, and well i even painted my calipers red... and the car started, but with the same noise. if the problem is serious than i might be looking at a new engine. i get a screching noise and dies after 3 seconds, really really really loud. im going to rip appart the 2zz see whats going on. god be with me on this one

That usually happens to me on rainy or moist days. I may need a new belt, but my 03 GT-S only has 33,000 miles on it & it's in good condition. If it has to do twith the transmission...then yea, get that looked into.

no no... this F@&ing sounds is screetching F@&ing load as F@&. and the car just turns off after 3 seconds... sounds like if theres a bent valve. derailed timming belt.... something F@&ed up (engine) F@&ing feel like droping a 3s-gte
