View Full Version : New coilovers?

Well, I think I blew out my recently overhauled SSP's.

I had just replaced new control arms, sway bars/bushings, and ball joints.

The old ball joints were leaking like crazy.

My problem still persists and I didn't want to think it was the coilovers again.

I'm going to scrap the SSP's, get them overhauled, and sell them.

How did I blow one? I recently read a topic about oil pans (I need one) and someone put a reply that only a handfull of people will push it on the streets.

I'm one of them. Sorry, I don't track my car, but I do.

I have X amount of money left to spend on this **** box.

I'm thinking going cheap like the KSport group buy or bigger like Zeal Function XS.

It's fair to say my front dampers have been compromised. It will cost me around $700-$800 to overhaul all corners and have it shipped air there and back. Tein will take a week or two to overhaul the dampers. Ground there and back will take at least two weeks plus. I don't have that time.

Riding on my old HA's won't be done again also to answer any and all questions.

I've had it with Tein.

Any recommendations on coilovers? I would like to hear something other than Jic or Koni inserts. Venders post it up if you like.

HOW did you blow them?

I have Tein HA's that are 5 years old and have around 50k miles on the, Auto-X and street driving.....and they are fine.

Please explain why you think they are blown?

Ouch that's bad! Good luck!

I do like my teins SSp but I am conscious that with that kind of stiff setup, street driving is hard on the struts. Especially with the streets here in mtl. But anyways, I am now driving like a grand mother on bumpy road/curves. The way the car handle on flat roads is worth it tho! :)

Go with C-One's you will not regret it. In fact, I will see if I can go take some pics right now of my car for you.

Pics of my car with the C-One coilovers will be here soon, if my g/f's computer works. Wish me luck.

Thanks for the concern and thank you DopeCelicaGT.

I replaced everything I thought would need replacing. I didn't need to replace anything.

It's quite obvious that my front right coilover is blown.

Why?, because when I installed them I can remember it was right (no pun there).

I held off on the overhaul and paid enough for it.

I guess I was in denile. What other suspension part on a car will gradually go south over time?

I replaced parts and the problem still exists. I rode on blown coilovers before and it's the same. They need to go.

I rode on HA's also and had to order new fronts from Japan because I blew them bad and Tein doesn't sell seperate dampers or HA anymore. I blew the new ones also over time.

5 years on coilovers is a long time Mica, for any coilover for any car. That must be 10,000 miles of virgin driving?
You know Tein recommends 30,000 miles of abuse before an overhaul or less?

I forgot to add that the sway bars were one of the best thigs I added to the car. They rival coilovers as the best thing to do to make a Celica handle better.

They make a difference all around. I don't crash cones so I have both installed.
If you ask. it cost me $300 for the front sway, both ball joints, both control arms, rear camber links, and rear sway installed.

I left the car at 8:00 and was there at 2:00 on a Saturday.

I only wish I could take advantage of them. That is the "sway bars".

I want to write that I will not be going with the C-One coilovers.

The fact that there is no one in the states that can overhaul those coilovers puts them down to zero.
Parts that can only be obtained via Japan is not an option. I went that way with Tein HA's once and never again.

I was left with another 2 checks that = $690 I forgot about.

I will probably go another brand new Tein custom route, KSport, or Zeal.

I haven't decided yet.
