I dropped off my Celi at the dealership to get my TRD LSD, clutch, and flywheel installed. (I also had them check my 2nd gear synchro) They tell me that it shouldn't be that hard to do. So I get back to work all excited thinking that my car will be completely different when I get it back. Well, lunchtime rolls around and I give them a call checking for the status of my 2nd gear synchro. They tell me that they couldn't install the LSD due to inexperienced techs, and they didn't have the proper tool to break 5th and 6th gear. I'm like WTF....Toyota's suppose to be prepared for this. But I did appreciate his honesty. So I'm at a loss for words at that moment, cuz other dealerships quoted me 1000-1500 for the install. While this dealership quoted me only 600. So the only option I was left was to have them install the clutch and flywheel. The only good thing that came out of it was, they installed it for 400 even. Now I'm stuck with having a non toyota-tech install the LSD. What a day!!!
Are you kidding me? I would have told them to make it $200, cuz it's going to cost you another $1000 to have the lsd installed at another dealer that knows what in the hell they are doing. Innexperienced techs? So why would they quote you a price on something they don't know how to do or have the tools for. Screw Old Mill Toyota man. I've been saying that all along.

No kidding!!! Well I'm looking at 4 N Speed on installing the LSD. They said that they usually send it to a tranny shop for the install. I'll find out the price tomorrow. They said that they usually charge 250 for the Quaiffe installations on Honda's. Hopefully it'll be under 600 if they're charging that cheap for 5 speeds.

Know what...I paid 650 for my mechanic to put in an UR lightweight flywheel, ACT clutch kit and a quaife LSD...and yes, each and every gear was in pieces on the floor....but the damn thing runs better than ever now...$1000?....$1500...?...sounds like a rip-off
You still got a good deal .... and it was nice of em to be honest about it ,,, insteasd of em F*(&^ing it up!

Yea...I give the service guy a lot of respect for being honest. I'll find out tomorrow how this car will run with the new parts. Hopefully good things will be said tomorrow.

honestly....you dont have to drop the whole tranny.
any place that has done a celica before should know.
it took all day, but carboy said enxt time it wont take as long because they discovered a couple short cuts to get to the stock differential and you dont have to undo all the gears.
btw...you have to drop the transmission out....you can NOT do this yourself....i tried....my friend had to literally BEAT the wrech out of my hand (he had airtools...he turned off the air) as i was about to drop the tranny or engine or something.
ive taken apart everything i own...my car included...nearly pulled out the engine just to see how it worked....andy beat me out of it.
its such an interesting car, im telling you. for someone like me, its absolute heaven. turbos are fun and all, but i love TECHNOLOGY (the only replacement for displacement? mkiv guys where are ya? )
LSD is the best mod ive done.
it made me give up drag racing for autocross. LOVE handling now.
celica handles almost as good as a similarly upgraded type R now i'd say.
i want every honda owner to drive my car now....its night and day. literally...

Just got my car back from the TRD clutch and flywheel installation. At first I thought that the clutch would feel a little akward, but it felt the same as stock. It just grabs the gear a little bit earlier than usual. I've heard of some people stalling the first couple of times right after they got their car, but driving it felt fine. I noticed that acceleration was much easier....I usually saw my throttle percentage on my afc at 13% - 17% when i accelerated from the get go. Now it's from 9% - 13%. I didn't feel like it lagged anymore. It doesn't really feel like a whole new car, but it does feel a lot more eager to go faster.
Now, the feel of it at full throttle is pretty amazing. You can definitely feel the revs climb up faster. As for the 1-2 land..........:ugh: My second gear synchro is shot. I had the them check on it, and they said that it's fine. They did notice that it grinded when they "speedshifted". The claimed that the car wasn't meant to be speedshifted, and that new clutch should solve that problem. But no it didn't. Now it only happens when I'm at high rpms. I'm gonna take it to another dealership around here, but I need some advice from the people who had their synchros replaced. What did you tell the dealership? Especially since it only happened at high rpms? Any good advice?
