here is the story, i was driving on the interstate on saturday, and there was a small incident between the 2 cars in front of me. So they both stopped, and i passed them and on my way home. Then the next day (sunday), I found a note on my door saying that that person needs to talk to me. He left the phone number and ask me to call him back, and yet he'll pay me money if necessary. So the question is how the hell this guy find my address ? I assume through my license plate. I know the DOT is not suppose to give out personal info, and yet it was on the weekend, so there is no way it came from DOT. Have you guys in this situation before ? if so, please advise what i should do ? should i call this guy ? or should i turn the note to the police ? or should i call my lawyer ? is it consider to be violate my privacy (The Fourth Amendment) ? any input would greatly appreciate.

just stay the f*ck away, dont trust people like that. Your life will be hell if you agree, you'll have to go to every court appearance, and that means taking off from work/school...

if u know exactly wat happened, then u should help the person out. how would u feel if u got into an accident and the witness who could bail u out just didn't help u out cause they were lazy.
however, if ur busy, thats another story.

If you have seen what happened ... help him out but tell him if your bussy ... You would feel real good about yourself if you do the right thing.

I feel like a after school special.;)

who said it wasn't his fault. he could be the cause and want to pay him off to not talk.

With your license plate number an ISP and $15 you can find out anything you want to in our modern world, address is just the start of it. It seems to me that you may be able to help someone out here and at the most in cases where I have been a witness in the past it is just a matter of giving a sworn written statement as to what you saw and you never have to deal with it again.
