Does anyone know what are the numbers(performance wise) of the RSX (not the Type S) against the GT.
A friend of mine is buying one and he wants to race as soon as possible vs. my GT.
If somebody has any info or a site I could look for would be great.
Thanks...........

My opionion. I think a Celica GT would beat the regular RSX. I have a White GT-S and I burn the RSX Type-S. Perhaps its the way race or that Celicas are made faster

Yesh. GTS's are fast. It's you, not them.

going back to the original question...

who would win

A base RSX vs A base Celica GT

I've raced a Type-S in my GT. Granted I lost by like a car and a half.. I think GT will do just fine against non type-s. From my race experiences with prelude/GS-R/Si and many others... I believe GT will take it. RSX does have 20more HP and 15more Torque but you have to consider it is like 300 pounds heavier. The best way to find out is either test drive and beat the shiet out of them to see how you feel or just race one on the street...

Yeah, I think the weight factor has a mayor role on the race. It does weight like 300 pounds heavier. I went to the dealer with my friend and we took a test drive of the Base RSX with the sales person. My friend punched the car and I did not hear any sound of V-tech. In the Type-S the V-tech activates at 5000RPM when we gave it a little test drive but I didn't heard that on the Base one.

If I am not mistaken, base RSX has no i-vtec function. It is just like an Integra GS without a Vtec. BTW I also believe their i-vtec/vtec kicks in some around at 6000rpm. You will need to do your research before you post.:naughty:

I think you'll need to do a little research b4 u post, man.. (don't be mean to mean by saying that.. hehe.. )
this is my first post.

I do have vtec, and vtc = i-vtec on my car, but it's called a 2stage vtec, whereas the typeS and s2000, for example have a 3stage vtec.. it's something about the pistons or cams or some stuff all running, instead of only one (hehe.. i'm reading my own explanation and i can tell i don't know ****.. ) but yes, i do have vtec. It isn't very noticeable.

300lbs? damn.. how much does ur car weigh? mine's 2694lbs. (premium model w/ leather, heated seats).. i think the base, base model weighs maybe a lil less.. maybe 10-20lbs or something.

I was actually thinking about getting a gt.. I had money for either a gt or a base rsx. I tested both. IMO, they're about the same.

It's funny because when I read in my forum, the RSX(base, typeS), rocks the Celica(GT, GTS), [respectively] hehe..

What kinda quartermile times do GT's run?

I can tell you that the BEST... that somebody has fun is a 15.804 in a base rsx w/ leather).. he had a sub, amp, 3/4 tank of gas, nothing taken out to lose weight, and his only mod was a short shifter.

I have no idea what GT's run.. i'm thinking around 16, which is what the average baseRSX runs too. low16, high15.. I haven't gone to a track yet, but I wanna.. hehe.. i'd be fun to run w/ a GT.. seems fair. I have more power, but more weight, gt has less power, but less weight(lot less weight)

dont pick on my spelling mistakes.. hehe..

just my 2cents

Hey man ,, I'm on your side. And I did my reaserch. I'm not making this stuff up, I am certain that the RSX type S v-tech kicks in at 5000RPM, and I know because I have been inside one. What I dont understand is the V-tech sistem in the Base RSX.

It should be a pretty close race. The weight difference between the RSX and GT is about 200 lbs, but the RSX has 20 more HP and more torque. Forget what V systems each have. The HP and torque plots are all that matter for the engine. It would be a drivers race. I think the RSX owner has a larger margin for error with the increased power.

Up to the driver. I raced two RSX cars when my GT was stock and I beat one guy and tied the other. Blew them away when I got my CAI and my exhaust. Raced a Type-S once and got beat by a car and half, same as racing jotan's GT-S that I raced.

The VTEC system in the base RSX is just like the VVTi in the base Celica(variable valve timing). Both engines do not incorporate lift. The GT-S and RSX-S however have lift (variable valve timing and lift)

Most GT owners are running high 15's, low 16's.
My personal best is 15.705@85.XX mph.

wow.. 15.70? was that stock?

that's really good.. That would beat any basersx time at the current moment. ..

The best on this board for a GT is 14.7, run by Maelfyn:thumbup:

14.7 wasn't stock though.. right?

best we got is 15.724 w/ a short shifter.

14.7 is with weight reduction, header, unbolted exhaust, SAFC, and intake I believe.

Cool,, Thanks for the list man,, Now I can compare times next time I go to the race track.

My best time in the 1/8 Mile was 10.658 with CAI.

umm...i raced my friend who has a stock rsx with sportshift against my manual stock gt. beat him by about 2 car lengths. maybe it was because he only had sportshift. but that was my experience with an rsx. hope this helps.

Here comes Maeflyn.....he has a GT and I believe his time was 14.7865. Check the 1/4 time archive in the home page.

Keep in mind that Maeflyn has a strong car, is a good driver, and had lots of mods. Definitely not the norm. You can't compare the absolute best GT time (after mods) with the RSX stock...or even with a CAI.

THE BASE RSX HAS lift, it's the same v-tec that the honda civic hx has ,It's SOCH econmical v-tec on a DOCH engine, which means the v-tec is only on one cam (GAY) plus the base rsx has 100% the same ENGINE as the new 02 honda civic si. Look on the side of the car it says DOCH V-TEC like the 99-00 SI. The RSX typeS has vvti plus a stage 3 v-tec on BOTH cam's. I beat base rsx, and Si by a good amount even when my car was stock
