I am definitely capable of low 14.9. There were a few things working against me tonight. I guarantee low 14s before the end of the racing season~ Here's a run down of things working against me:

-Check engine light on (VVTi code. Dealer taking care of it on Wednesday)
-S-AFC was uninstalled because the dealership requested so in order to do the work.
-Umm couple other things..

Bear in mind this is with the new block that I received under warranty. So basically I have a new engine in my car. As usual I do not have pics right away. I just got back from the track and I only have access to digital cams through my friends. However here's a rundown of the best slip first:

ET 1/4 Mile: 15.0088
Reaction Time: 0.5513
Speed 1/4 Mile: 91.8688
60 ft: 2.2922
330ft: 6.3168
1/8 mile: 9.6600
1000 ft: 12.5310

Here's an honorable mention:

ET 1/4 Mile: 15.0764
Reaction Time: 0.6745
Speed 1/4 Mile: 91.4374
60 ft: 2.2656
330ft: 6.3472
1/8 mile: 9.7064
1000 ft: 12.5877

I'm most excited about the higher trap speeds. With my S-AFC I will be hitting 92 no problem. I am running extremely lean low to mid range and my launches are a bit slower than usual.

Hey, awesome. You keep getting SO close to 14's. Only a few 10,000's off this time.

You got a good GT. :D

Soon, very soon.
I will have my Car back and then I will hope to beat you to it.
lol, I had to have my block replaced as well.
But they say as long as I take the N02 off, I will be able to keep my warrenty. which is nice.
Was running mid 13's
But no more...... :(

Just what mods do you have on your GT other than the S-AFC? Your sig picture said that it's not stock, and it doesn't list any other mods...

Congratulations.. thats great, GL with your hunt for 14's cant be far off now. I hope to see no "the guy in the other car cant drive" comments when you next post kills in the racing section! :D

very nice driving...i dont think you've got low 14's though. i can see a 14.8-14.9 if you work that 60 down to a 2.1 or so. do you have DR's? you may want to try those out...but i gotta give you props, you're driving really well and i don't think anyone here thought a GT would ever be this close to 14's with just bolt on's and track prep. good job!

Yeah Joe it's awesome. You definitely have the fastest GT anywhere.

I know Joe has at least CAI, header and exhaust, S-afc and I'm pretty sure he runs on stock rubber for a GT.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

Oh woops.. I was trippin. I meant low 14.8s or something. Low 14s not happening any time soon LOL, probably never. I need to put DRs on a pair of my 15s. My best launch is 2.221 so far. You think I can get high 2.0s? Maybe if I get a nice tornado behind me... A pulley might help me trap 94.

Remember this 15.008 is without my s-afc :( It should be interesting to see what the ol' car can do in the coming weeks.

i said 2.1's..not 2.0's..hehehe..

get DR's, warm em up good and see how close to redline you can drop it in first..

the S-AFC will help ya, but i thought it was only worth 2whp? anyways...try lightening the car even more, if you can..i'm sure there is something you haven't done that you still can. there's always one more trick you can pull that will help. since i only drag RWD my tire pressure, and swaybar advice wuldn't help ya, so..hehe..best of luck man!

The reason people try to say the s-afc isn't as helpful for a GT is because at high RPMs the stock fuel map is pretty accurate. You will see rather small max whp gains because of this. However, at mid range and low RPMs the stock fuel map is very lean. This is from dynos I have seen with only i/e so who knows what it's like with a header as well ... probably even more lean. I need to get a dyno soon... maybe Thursday I dunno... or next week.

So this means GT will see a lot of low and mid range increase in power. I even noticed this at the track because my I simply could not match my old launches. Before I would get low 2.2 every time, but now I struggle for a high 2.2 and often get 2.3. I had problems balancing my throttle correctly between bogging and too much wheel spin.

The only weight reduction I can really think of is midpipe, but I don't think I want to go that far.

Hey Maeflyn what mods do you have? What do you mean by VVT-i code? Does it mean its not working because of the check engine light?

Oh and what is your S-AFC setting at?- Thanks

Maelfyn
11-27-2001, 12:10 AM
MSR27: my s-afc settings are at home on my desktop. I'm at work right now so I'll PM them to you later. Those are only tuned for i/e though. The VVTi code is the code given when they scan the ECU. The service manager wasn't even able to tell me what it meant specifically. Hell maybe my cam gear isn't even adjusting properly.

LarryD: haha hood pimp.. uhh... PM a price to me

What track do you go to in MD or VA?

Always Capitol Raceway. I might hit Cecil some time this season.

Damn never been there. Always hit up 75/80 and Cecil. best time so far for me has been 15.5@88mph with a 2.02 60ft. time with BFG drag radials. All I had was exhaust/intake. Never ran it with header

Um. 2.02 60 foot? Post a time slip please. I'll believe it when I see it. A launch like that usually means some serious torque and usually traps over 100 mph

Cecil is closed for the season unless you plan on going to a test & tune on a Sat.. 35.00

Why is 2.02 on drag radials hard to believe? It's like your 15.008, no other GT has gotten those times w/o nitrous? If you can get 2.26 on street tires you're telling me I can't get 2.02 on drag radials?

It's hard to believe because you need some serious hop off the line to get a 60 foot like that. If you knew anything about drag racing you would know a 2.02 60 foot is no joke. The best launch I have been able to manage is 2.21. There are a lot of GT-S out there using DRs that aren't even coming close to 2.02. If you are launching a 2.02 you would have to be the world's worst shifter to get a 15.5.

And to answer your question no other GT is posting times like mine for whatever reason. Probably because most GT people just don't try or care. I see very few GT peeps even posting times. So until I see you post some slips.. yeah I'm calling you a liar.

Gotta get to the track and find out. ;)

i would say best GT anywhere until some of you yahoos up in europe start posting some time slips. i know in japan it's gotta be slower, they always have horrible ETs, even when they drive properly like in the Best Motoring Videos (the guy driving the GTS couldn't break 15.8 and he was keeping it in lift).

It is not that hard to do with BFG's. I don't know why you would try and flame me on this. I haven't done anything to you or said one bad word about you. I could have easily have said put up a timeslip but 1.) you have given me no reason to believe you're lying 2.) if you did actually make that pass then it gives me something to shoot for. the fact that this car stock goes high 15's and you get a 15 flat out of it speaks alot of something. Whether it's your driving or something else. I am not flaming you. I was going to ask where you launch? My shifting isn't that great, that I will admit, but that is something I have to work on. I am buying a TRD ss in about a week or so, so that should help. track is closed for the season. 75&80 really sucks so don't go there. everyone says you run faster at other tracks. In any case i'm not flaming you. Later

Thanks. I ran that time with the 15" stock rims with the BFG's mounted. I roll around on 16" GT-S rims now which I'm getting powder coated graphite grey in two weeks. My 3rd to 4th shift is horrible and once I get a SS I can hopefully fix that. The other car I ran was my brother's Supra at BPU level. He has the 2step so he can launch with boost and get those 60foot times. His car is a hell of a lot faster than that now, hes going single next year. probably an SP-63. he was thinking about the T78 but he doesn't know yet. Do you go to Metro? Later

Maelfyn
11-30-2001, 11:18 PM
I have been to V street once. Never been to metro. It's cool to show the car off and hang out with friends, but I don't really see the point of racing people at the illegals. I have my slips and that's all that really matters to me.

Unless I see a slow lookin GT-S though.. that's always a crowd pleaser.
