View Full Version : Warranty ? about syncros

Does anyone know if I can have my syncros serviced or replaced if I have a clutch and flywheel installed? My second gear syncro is about shot. When I shift into second, all I hear is grinding. Is that my syncros. It used to grind when I take the RPM to 6k and over, but now its grinding below 4k. Can I have it serviced even though I have a clutch and flywheel installed. Sorry if I sound repetitive. I just want to know because the grinding is really erking me.

They won't replace your synchro unless you misshifted.

I am on my second engine. Would they replace the syncros?

They will replace it even if you dont misshift.... this I know with experience :(

yeah, they should replace it even if u didn't mis-shift, it's part of the powertrain and as long as you have under 60k miles they should cover it

If you check the TSB thread for this it seems to contradict the general advice.

That is if they don't just say you've been driving the car too hard and deny coverage. Gotta love Toyota dealers, they'll do anything to get out of warranty work.

My 2nd gear synchro is very shot and I just don't want to have to deal with the dealership anymore. I just double-clutch when I downshift every time now and I don't have to worry about those pesky synchros :P

CELICA 6 SPEEDS DO NOT HAVE SYNCROS FOR 2ND GEAR THATS THE PROBLEM.

Yeah its your syncros most likely, yes they are under warranty. In fact if you bring it in to teh dealer for that problem they will probably cut you a deal on installing clutch & flywheel seeing as how they have to take the tranny down to do the syncros anyways.

wus up man, yeah they will replace it under warranty. Just tell them to have a tech take a drive with you and show him. the same thing happened to me, it grinded at low RPM too and they replaced it for me. Took them a long time but they did it. By the way, where in central california are you from???

Same thing is happening to me right now. I am 'supposed' to get my car back tomorrow...
Of course, I was supposed to get my car back Last Wednesday, so think what you may...

Along with the synchro they are replacing the 2nd gear along with 'a bunch of other stuff'. They told me there was a TSB out from Toyota that listed parts to be replaced in case of a bad synchro...I have not yet been able to find that TSB. I will ask the exact name of the TSB when I call tomorrow.

How do you think you don't have to double clutch and rev match an upshift...

I just got my synchro's replaced under warranty AND I HAVE NEVER MISSHIFTED.

The problem is that I already have a aftermarket clutch and flywheel installed. I would like to know if I can have my syncros replaced under warranty even after those mods. Thanks for the replys.

YEAH IT WA KINDA A JOKE THEY HAVE SYNCROS THEY JUST DON'T WORK PROPERLY THAT WHY ALL THESE PEEPS KEEP MISS-SHIFTING. AND WHY TOYOTA HAS SUSPENDED MAKING THE 6 SPEED. I DID HEAR THAT THEY MAY HAVE ANOTHER SIX SPEED ON THE WAY IT IS STILL IN DEVELOPMENT. THEY ARE USING A DIFFRENT COMPANY THIS TIME. ODLEY ENOUGH THE PEEPS THAT MADE THIS ONE FOR TOYOTA ALSO MADE THE S2000 TRANNY AND THEY TOO ARE MISS-SHIFTING AND BLOWING UP.

Ummm Toyota still sells the 6 speed in both the Celica GTS and the Matrix....

The mis-shifts don't have jack SH*T to do with the syncros they have to do with the shift GATES and bad driving.

Why do you post here? you don't seem to know sh*t about Sh*t and you don't even have a Celica anymore... In fact you seem to hate them....

Exactly. I'm thinkin we have a misshifter here..... bitter that he can't drive. 'Course now that I've said that he'll come back and blatantly deny it. He'll start going off about how he was driving along and bam his motor just blewup or something stupid like that. I swear his posts resemble that of an 8 year old with far too little to do.
