View Full Version : The GT-S is great for passing on 2-lanes!

I recently have done a lot of driving on rural 2-lane roads, and I just discovered how great the GT-S is for passing the locals. Whenever I needed to pass, I would just put it in third, and by the time I would have the nose into the other lane, lift would kick in, and away I would go!

In my old car. I would always drop into second to try to squeeze every extra bit of power from it, and have to shift DURING the pass. But here I just put it in third (as long as I am moving 45+), and once I hit around 60, I would sail right by, with ability to run past 80 before shifting.

After almost 2-years, I still find new things that I really like about this car!

I have a 50 mile commute to work. Most of it on 2-lane roads thru stupid little towns. So I get behind local people crawling down the road all the time. The Celica was not bad at all for passing. I could comfortably pass even if it was uphill. That's something I can't do in my Bronco or Prelude. No passing basically with either of those, except in one place where it's a huge downhill passing zone for like 1/4 mile. And of course, the L is great with passing but I cut back using it for commuting to 1 day a week.

for kicks try going 45 and drop it into second and floor it at the same time.
you'll love that
or do the same thing but into 3rd gear at 75.
