Yesterday i was riding around and a got a check engine light. So i made a stop, and checked the engine. And and I lost the Bottom part of the ECU COOLING TUBE from my injen cai. I still got the top part of it, which was also barely hanging off the ecu box. From there i went straight to Toyota and ordered a new one. 45 bucksss.. what a ripoff for a little plastic piece.
Now my question is, is it alright to be riding around like that? what are the side effects? and why did my check engine light go on, if some people on this board havent had a ecu tube, and never got nothing..?

thanks alot for the help

THE SIDE EFFECTS OF THE CEL ARE: MORE FUEL CONSUMPTION, NOT THE BEST PERFORMANCE AND IN LONG TIME DAMAGE TO THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER DUE TO THE LAMDA SENSORS ARE NOT WORKING. BACK UP PROGRAM OF THE ECU (C.E.L.) BLOCKS THE SECOND LAMDA SENSOR WHICH IS AFTER THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER.

I had the same problem...my ECU tube fell off the day I installed my CAI, my CEL never came on, luckily I just happened to open the hood and notice it came off, and it was sitting in the underbody plastics, so I just made sure I put it back on real good...no problems since.

Are you refering to the oxygen sensors? If so not ALL codes disable closed loop operation - and the secondary O2 sensor only monitors catalyst efficiency so that it can turn the CEL on in the event of a catalyst failure as part of OBD2 regulations. Its function is irrelevant to fuel trim and engine performance.

Just as a hint you can tell if a code affects the closed loop aperation by looking at the code freeze frame. It will say CL Fault if there was a problem that disabled closed loop operation.

1 - do NOT over oil your filter
2 - make sure ALL connections are tight and that your MAF seats fully and VERY tightly - if there is any doubt use silicone, tape, or whatever to make sure its in tight and sealed.

these 2 things will minimize the chances.

i didnt even know the cooling tube existed.... my engine exploding was at 10,000 something miles and i went till 18,000 without an ECU tube.. no problems (at least none relating to it)
