I thought they didn't race anymore.

Anyway, it was Hikari Racing (I forgot the URL). Don't know if anybody else had a go in the Speedvision World Challenge (http://www.speedvisionwc.com/) with Celicas.

There were two Celicas racing. A white one and a red one.

Two teams perhaps...? hopefully

Do you know what racing series you saw?

On the site for the Speedvision World Challenge (http://www.speedvisionwc.com/) , the only mention of Celicas racing is in 2000, doesn't look like any raced in 2001 (right no there's one race left), and who knows if somebody will campaign a Celica for 2002.

So you either saw a year-old repeat, or it was something else.

According to the site, upcoming Speedvision World Challenge broadcasts for the Touring Car class (where the Celica competed) are:

On Speedvision

Round 10 Road Atlanta II
Friday, Nov. 9 8:00 p.m.
Sat., Nov. 10 12:00 a.m.
Sat., Nov. 10 12:00 p.m.

Year In Review
Thurs., Dec. 13 10:00 p.m.

<hr>

On Fox sports

Round 10 Road Atlanta II
Sun., Nov. 18 1:00 p.m

Celica RZ : What you saw was SCCA GT2 Class race, I have it on tape if anyone is interested. There were two Celicas: white one was leading but spun out, and red one made a move from second to first passing Sunbeam Tiger. 300ZX got second place, Porsche 914 was third. I don't think those Celicas have GTS motors, I think they're running Toyota Atlantic motors(1.8 liters, around 250 hp, based on first generation MR2 motor)They also had fenderflares and all goodies of a race car, so I don't know if we can still call it Celica. I'm wondering what size tires they were running, looked like 16" rears 17" fronts. Anyone got more info?

Yeah, that's the race I saw.

How do you know they weren't running the 2zzge? did they mention that during the race or sumthin?...I didn't see the whole race so....

The Toyota Atlantic engine is the 4age which is a 1.6L motor.

do you know who was running the car?

The Celica that won GT-2 class at the SCCA Valvoline Runoffs was driven by Duane Davis.

It's a tube frame chassis with (I'm assuming) heavily modified engine and suspension. I don't have a SCCA road racing rule book so I can't look up the allowed modifications. But I'm assuming you can't swap the engine but you can modify the hell out of it. And suspension is typically a free-for-all in these types of classes.

BTW, there were two Celicas in SSB (Showroom Stock B). They got trounced with one finishing 29th out of 39 cars and the other Celica didn't finish.
