View Full Version : Those of you with kits...

I have a question for you all.

How much did it cost you, for the paint and install of your kit?

My body shop has a way of getting around paying for the painting and install costs...but it's basically insurance fraud...And I don't really want to go that route...

I gathered from random threads...and from being on the board for almost 2+ years that an average cost for paint and install is $2000 to $2500.

$2500 was what my body shop quoted me if I wanted to go the legitimate route.

I'm not willing to commit insurance fraud...something that includes jail time if caught...just to make my car look nicer than it does.

I'm also not really willing to shell out $3500 (kit, paint, install) for a kit either...

Is there another way? Is $2500 way to high?

Thanks for your replies in advance.

Hanwei

$2000 to $2500? What are they smoking? There's no way paint and install for a body kit should be that high. I'd say anywhere from $800 to $1500. At least on the East coast. In Cali the prices seem to be cheaper due to more competition from other body shops.

Hey guys, thanks for your responses.

Streetfighter, where did you get your kit painted and installed?

$1600 for painting/installing Kaminari front, sides, rear, painting stock hood, painting middle console parts (maybe trunk as well), and installing all grille sections on Kam kit.

I had AutoHaus do it. Trust me, don't go there man. I have gaps that I need to have fixed. Go to RPM and see how much they can do it for you. I think they quoted me $1200 a year ago but I'm sure they can do it for $1000-1100.

yeah...I used to do business with Auto Design Haus....never will again.

I got my rims and HID kit from RPM...I may give them a call.

Both places are shady though. I hate how all the damn speed shops are so friggin shady.

A friend of mine takes good care of me. He runs a custom paint/bodyshop and uses PPG materials. He did my whole kit for $300 and installed it for me. Show quality job and finish... his cars are featured in Turbo and Super Street magazines. He basically charged me for materials and a tad of labor. I think normally you can expect to pay about $5-600, and I would consider that pretty fair. Anything much more than that is just a pretty big profit.

I must go with the post made by celwin --- Although I did most of the preparation work on my kit (sanding, filing and fitting) -- The paint shop I went to was pretty reasonable. As celwin posted, on the east coast a pretty descent body shop should charge anywhere from 800 (absolute lowest) to 2000 (absolute highest). Also, if the body man has not yet seen the ACTUAL kit you are putting on the vehicle (THE KIT YOU HAVE IN YOUR POSSESION) then he cannot quote you an exact price. Maybe the price was a highball figure though (most amount of work they would possibly have to do). I can't accurately say, because I havent seen the actual kit. I know my Kaminari (full kit) came through in Very Bad shape ---- 12 hours of sanding fisheye and scrapes. As far as your body shop goes --- maybe they are looking at a job similar to this --- But still it should not be more than 2 Grand.

What problems did you have with AutoHaus?

How much did you pay for the HID? I think I can get it for $450.

Painting cost varies alot by how many coats of base and clear coat... so if you want to get OEM paint job then it'll cost alot.. but if you goto like 1 day body and paint. you can get it done for couple hundred bucks.. but you can really tell the difference from stock paint and paint from them....
You get what you pay for.... unless you are luck to find some good place or get hook up.. ^^
