Hello.

I heard through the grapevine that the new 2003 V6 Tib with 6-speed can kick the 2003 GTS 6 speeds butt. Anyone care to comment?

Rumors usually are false; which is why they are called rumors and not facts. The only thing the Tiburon "stomps" the GT-S on is price, and you get what you pay for.

not true....took one from 45-100 by a car and a half....was a 6 speed and changed gears to third same time i did.....i had my 320lb friend with me...he had his g/f
still had dealer tags on it....
about 4 miles later it was me...a GTP....and the tib....the gtp took the tib....i took the gtp....

With the rev limiter problem on late 2001 and 2002 models, the Tiburon V6 6 speed will beat the Celica GTS off the line (0-60MPH).

Remember, it's the damn rev limiter, not the car that makes it slow.

sorry...can't help you with the 2003 GT-S... but i know i mopped up three of them so far... just cause they have a V6 they think they could pick on us lil' 4 poppers... seems like after they read in a mag that they beat a GT-S because the lowered fuel cut and the damn guys didn't take the car even up to it's 7800 fuel cut that they would walk all over all GT-S's...nice styling on them, though i didn't get to see the rear end or sides for long considering all i mainly saw was the ugly headlights in the rear-view...

depends on the driver by far... overal though, Celica is much better car, according to gazillion magazines that compared them

30-50 mph: 3 sec
50-70 mph: 4.4 sec
Quarter Mile time: 15.8 sec

I thought they looked good in the pictures; in person they look cheap like the previous years (or like any other Hynudai).

they're both mid 15 second cars. itll be a drivers race.

sorry guys, but when toyota yanked back that revlimiter, they neutered teh car.

I am still wondering about the handling. Some say the suspension is soft and handling sucks, some say it is good. I think that is still something, handling, braking, etc. the Celica beats most competitors on (aside from looks)

Hi.

About the GTP. My momma has a 2000 GTP 4-door and it hauls ass up to about 80mph then it falls on its face. I was racing a late 80's early 90s stick Supra and I could smoke him all day long below 80, but at top end I could barely and I mean barely beat him. I timed her car from 0-60 and it does it in just under 8 seconds which would equate to a high 15 second 1/4. The 2-door is faster.

Probably not. The GT-S lacks the torque that the V6 Tib has.

02 rev limiters suck!!

whats up peeps- I own the 2003 tib gt v-6. The GT-S is also a tight a$$ car, it was a tough decision but it came down to funds so I went with the tib. Lets be real, the two cars are even, nobody is smokin nobody with both knowledgeable drivers. The tib has more torque so it will pull out from 0-60 but then the GT-S will catch right back up. It all comes down to gearing. Does the GT-S respond good to mods? Just curious. I just purchased the AEM CAI which dynoed at 16.5 HP to put the tib pretty close to 200. You have to give credit to Hyundai where credit is due though, because lord knows I never thought I would buy a hyundai in my lifetime, its a very clean car. Much props to the GT-S too, love the stylin. This year was definitely a good year for sport compacts

whoa dont look at those mag times and make that decision the fuel cut for mine is about 7900 and scc took their 2002 only 7500 rpm and shifted which would give the 00-01 almost 1000 more rpm in the powerband... again scc are idiots sometimes... mag racers need to grow a pair and get a few runs and then comment....

larryd

still though.. the quickest time ive seen out of an 02 yet was like 15.5..

Actually SCC said they had a faulty rev limiter. Someone on here is also having a similar problem. They can only go to about 7500 in 1st, then 7800 in every other gear.

If you check out their results for the '00 GT-S, you'll see they got the fastest times for the car out of any magazine, and they beat most of the people here in the 1/4 mile. They know what they're doing.

also i think given a good driver the 02 can hit atleast flat 15... there arent really many 02 owners that are taking it to the track... not saying that the 400 rpm toyota ****ed us out of doesnt suck but give the right driver i think and 02 will hit flat 15... im gonna run my car at CMI sometime during the summer just to see how ill do... and i think ezrida is attempting to be the first 02 into the 14s

if you have an '02 GT-S, just learn to launch properly, and you can make up for that somewhat in short drag strips (cars will still make up distance or pull on you at higher speeds whereas the 00 GTS pulls away).

lack of torque is an ADVANTAGE in launching FWD cars at high RPM on the streets.

an '02 GT-S from a roll should be 'relatively' even with a new Tiburon GT V6. an '00-'01 GT-S should pull away. when you include launches, it's all driver (like with most cars). a great GT-S launch will smoke the Tib and vice-versa.

but the Tiburon looks a lot like the Supra mated to a Mustang. :chuckles: i like the way it looks.

so what,

tiburon weighs more and its FF setup with a V6. who are we kidding? that car won't turn.

The T-Sport Celica kicked its butt in the EVO magazine review.. shame that they've lowered the rev limit on the US cars now :(

for those who still want to pick up 00's a few weeks ago i was at findlay toyota here in vegas and they had 2 used 00 gts 6 spds both had under 45k on them. ONe silver one red, silver one was modded with AEM intake, kazuma exhaust, SS, clutch and lightweight flywheel, got a chance to test drive it and it took a little while to get used to how quick the clutch grabbed and the car was pretty stinking quick nad had no problem keeping it in lift from 1-2 only problem is they were selling the car as is with no warrenty. Then i took out the red one which was stock nesides some nifty light bulbs, clutch was much smoother but was much tougher to hit 1-2 in lift i got it about 3-5 times, i didn't know my hands could move that fast until then. Then took out an brand splanking new 02, couldn't hit lift once arghhhhhhh!

it should be pretty close for the 02's GT-S and the V6 Tiburon, but as far the 00's go, no chance stock
