ECU records -

anybody know exactly what the ECU records and for how long? Does it keep track of the last week? Meaning, RPM, speed peaks, etc... and does this information get reset after disconnecting the battery after awhile or does it stay in some kind of ROM. TIA for your input..

nothing gets recorded if you dont throw off a DTC... if you throw off a DTC then lots of things get recorded and stay there until you reset the ECU...

whats a DTC?,,, and so you are saying if I disconnect the battery, there will not be information available to the dealer about "driving habits"? :)

one more thing... if I disconnect the battery, and bring it into the dealer the next day... will they know the ECU was reset the previous day? I assume they would, but just curious if anyone knows..

unless it comes on again no they wont know... DTC is a diagnostic trouble code.. official name for why your Engine Malfunction Light (CEL) comes on.
