Just look at the pad wear...It should be a good indication.

About 55 000 miles, which took me three and a half years to get. They were squeaking pretty bad when I was merely in motion, it was embarassing, but I finally got the pads changed a week ago. I imagine the pads were pretty low though, I use to drive the car pretty hard, that goes with braking too.

When I bought my car it had 36000 and the pads were bad the car now has 60000 and pads are going bad so I say a little less then 40000 miles is all your gonna get without running them dangerously low.

I ran mine for nearly 50K, and they weren't squeaking that badly. Just decided to change them while I was getting everything else done.
*please note: I'm not the idiot who tries to accelerate to full speed just to slam on the brakes between lights, nor do I have to brake whenever the road isn't straight. ;)

I got 95k front stock pads and still had life to them. I usually engine brake too but lately I'm afraid to cause my clutch is slipping pretty bad after I run it hard for even maybe 1 time through the gears off a light. So I usually go to neutral then use my brakes for now. What's a good clutch to go to?

first front pads went at anout 30-33k.
then i went for the cheap stuff, and got semi-metallic pads from murray's...
now, my front wheels are literally always covered in brake dust

I changed my stock pads and rotors at 63K miles since the rotors were warped I just bought aftermarket pads and rotors. They are working perfectly with about 20K miles on them almost.

Mines got 95k on the clutch and I think it's time. When it's really cold out or if I run it a little hard, the clutch slips.

I got about 45k and still had probably 5k left until I changed to some stronger pads, the rear should last alot longer then the front being the front brakes are doing most of the work.

So far my stock brake pads are getting thin, but still good @ 70k miles. However, I did have to change the clutch which started slipping at about 50k. So I may be more heavy on the downshifting than braking.
