wanted: headunit-Looks

In your opinion whats the best looking headunit, I know Alpine are really the best, but I don't like the design of them. I kinda like the new Sony xplod headunits.

Help me out guys! Pics would be greatly appreciated!

Sony Explod suck.. period id rather have my stock cd player than that cd player. Go with the alpine you will get used to it and like it.

I like pioneer head units the best. Alpine is one of the best but I just like the look of pioneer's graphic displays.

I agree with Bud...Explode does suck...my brother had one, and literally smashed it when I said I was selling my 7835...an older Alpine than the Explode, but he had a whole lot of bad luck with it.
IMO, the 7875 (I have one) looks really good with the blue and silver. Just my two pennies there.

I`m getting the pioneer "DEH-P840MP" Monday.

Aside from all its bells and whisles/ EQ settings, etc., It has a "drop-down" Organic EL display among other things

It`s hard to beat in the "looks" dept. :)

NO. A head is what creates and sends the signal to your amp.
It contains the radio, CD player, etc., all pre amp functions, etc.

i don't like sony car audio either. and i'm a huge sony fan otherwise. you can't touch their new head unit with the color tft screen though for looks. although they don't tell you many specs on it.

i like the new pioneer premier 840 and 940s. as well as the alpines. i plan on getting the 940.

Sony as a company is in the business of Volume selling not quality. There are only a few things thay make that I would even consider buying. there DVD players are satisfactory, Playstation, well on one else makes it and maybe a discman. there car audio is more show and flash than quality. Alpine and Eclipse use very high quality components to produce there units and thus charge a well deserved priemium for them. Sony they just make as many as possible and sell em damn near anywhere.

i have the pioneer p8400mp like the p840 above..it looks tite and the motorized face gives a great face life;) ...if u have the $$ get the new sony deck with the huge lcd display...which u can upload images and screensavers in color...the deck comes with a display of the xplod focus going around on a race track its tizzzite..if i didnt get my 8400mp i woulda payed the extra $300 for one=)

believe it or not, but this deck is actually pretty good... it's from a year before sony came out before their Xplod crap, I've had the thing in 2 cars, since about 99 or 2000, it's never skipped, and never broken.

-it's ugly
-the colors suck (orange or green)
-the way that you have to put the face on is retarded

I have the sony Xplod. Its decent. Not bad, and not especially great. But its does look nice. The blakc panel really matches the car (when its closed). But i decided to go with the pionner DEH-P840MP
1) it looks tight
2) EQ, mp3, Xm
3) was cheat, retail 620, got it for 380 on ebay.
btw, sony is cheap on ebay too, check it out

Unless your gonna go all out competition, just pick based on looks. I agree with you, sony or pionner look best. and alpine is kinda hmmm........

I just got the Sony CDX-MP70 ... the sounds coming out of it is ok............ It looks mad nice but I wouldnt' buy it if you're goign for sound quality.

just got a Pioneer DEH-P4400. Affordable and sound quality is awesome. Excellent for a sub $200 deck.

I just bought my second Alpine. It puts out the most power and it looks hott. In my opinion Sony is nothing compared to Alpine!!!

I have had both the Sony and Alpine in my Celica. I had the Sony 6010 or something like that with the blackout face. It looked nice but it seem to lack in power. Sony gets an extra point for having there decks be able to read CD-R text though. I then got my Alpine setup and it is so much nicer. More power, better quality sound and it seemed to be more durable. The sony would lose power every now and then but the Alpine never does. (knock on wood) If you want quality then get Alpine. Drop the Sony X-Plode. My pics are below.

Power from the headunit doesnt really matter. Its better not to have power. Powering everying with an amp is the way to go.

The new Alpine's are CD-R/CD-RW readable like the Sony's. I also agree with Carbon Blue. Amps are def. the way to go if u have the extra money!

I have the DVA-5205 DVD palyer and it doesnt read Cd-R's. Thats the only thing I dont like about it. But I do have a 1214 cd changer that reads CD-R's. But I was actually talking about sony actually reading the cd text.

here's a pic of the pioneer deh-p4400... my current system consists of the headunit you see below, stock speakers, lanzar optidrive 2200 series amp and two 10" subs that get the job done... and boy does it sounds awesome. everything sounds crisp and clear compared to the stock stereo i had... can't wait to upgrade the speakers...

i finally got the Pionner DEH-P840MP. But having problems with the mounting kit. Ill post pics when i resolve that.
btw its looking nice, good quality too a lot better than the sony ones i had.
One bad thing tho, its really horrible in the sun, cant see sh*t during the day.

nice pics. How is the sound quality of that headunit, and do u have any pics of it at the side. I wanna see how much it sticks out because it looks like it slides down kinda far. Also, i thought the screen would be a lot bigger. But thanks for posting the pics, it gave me an idea of how it will look in my car.

The quality is nice. A lot better than my old sony headunit. It doesnt stick out much when its closed, just as much as any headunit. But when its open it sticks out a lot. It sticks out just as much as the whole front screen. The display is kinda smaller than i thought too, but great backgrounds, youll enjoy it.
