Maybe it would help if they actually did a bit of promoting of their product? Hell, there are no performance specs on their site, no dyno results, no pictures, no price. Just a list of the parts. Sorry, but I'm not going to throw $3000+ at a product when I know almost nothing about it.
Yes, I could probably call them to get the info but why don't they make it easier on themselves and make the info readily available to potential customers?

I called last week out of curiousity. They said that they didn't have the GT-S kit ready, but that the GT kit IS ready. Who knows, maybe something has changed since then. In any case, I don't think I'm gonna mod my car any further, since I'm considering selling it in about 1-2 more years. Unless some parts come out the really grab my attention.

50+ whp aint bad for 5psi,
Its not like you can't raise it, the 1zz is whats limmiting it not the kit, the kit is good up to 18psi.
One should have all the facts before dissing a product, Hell it took for ever to get one made and now you are bitching?? weird

I think that hp gain is a guesstimate on their part. As far as I know, they've never dynoed the GT Celi's they've turboed.

lets's see....4 grand for turbo performance = +50hp. 4 grand for wctoyotasport turbo = +100hp. Does turbo performance think we're retarded, or what?
larryd
05-19-2002, 09:49 PM
there are no specific #s on either kit released as of yet just so you know.. and the only difference between 50hp and 100hp when it comes to a turbo is a manual boost controller.. I dont recall anyting saying the WCT kit will add 100hp though

You think? LOL (not flaming you, I agree 100%) I mean lets be serious here, $3,400 for a turbo that only puts out 50 horsepower at 5psi. If anyone wants to throw their money away, please PM me first, maybe I can take all that money off your hands and purchase you a nitrous kit for a third of the cost(i get to keep whatever is left over! hehe) Oh, and i'm sure the nitrous kit will give you a tad bit more than 50fwhp.
They did make a turbo kit for our cars and it has been a long time coming so I don't mean any disrespect but when you really think about it how can you justify spending that much when you get so little?

now i'm starting to see why nitrous is so popular. cheap way to go about it, no doubt, but that's where i'm going nevertheless.

Just got off the phone with Damon from Turbo Performance to see what the confusion is. He cleared up a lot of misconceptions for me. The 50 psi boost is for the 11:1 compression ratio on the GT-S at 5 psi. The celica gt will be able to boost 6 psi because of it's 10:1 compresion ratio and should be making closer to 70 hp more. He said they are actually doin the installs for free right now and he can work out prices for a group buy. Sounds a lot cheaper than 3400 though. If there is any other questions just call him up at 818-994-7087

The answer is very simple. Nitrous does NOTHING for the type of racing that I do. You can't use nitrous at an autocross and you can't use it on a road course. So it wouldn't matter if nitrous gave me an additional 200hp. I can't use it.

RADR1732
05-20-2002, 09:06 PM
djslik, you probably didn't read my post cause I was talking about just that. We're going to be to setting up a group buy and we have a shop to install the turbo and tune it with our dyno. I will be going to turbo performance later this week to get the details on pricing and specs of the kit. I will also be taking pictures of the kit and hopefully try to get someone there who already has the kit installed so we can post the pictures of the kit on here.
From what I've been reading on this board from being a member for the past 2 years, we should get a pretty good turn out. Just as long as you guys weren't all talk...hehe. On the serious note, I think we have waited for forced induction for a long time and now that it's finally here I can't wait to be able to get some boosted GTs out on the track. It also will not be long till we see a turbo GT-S because Turbo Performance is going to be prototyping a turbo on my Celica. Hey I know it's auto but like I said, I'm trying. I'll keep everyone posted.

Hey that works for me! My little auto needs some luv, too.
Thanks for the info and keeping us updated Richard. After 2 years with my Celi, I am finally serious about getting some FI this summer. I will even drive up to your shop to get this thing installed if things look good for this turbo (plus there are no shops in my city that I would trust for that kind of work).

Ya, but above that it says Coming Soon, not that he HAS a custom turbo. It's a wish list. Leave him alone. He just asked about the kit going on an auto, that's all.
Actually, since Le Toy IS prototyping the turbo on a GT auto, I am anxious to see what kind of results they get, especially after lower compression, etc.

yea...i missed your post about the group buy...but i probably won't be getting my kit until the summer...I have still have to get the funds for the whole thing. Hopefully the West Covina kit will be out then and I will be able to see the pros and cons of both kits. Turbo Performance looks promising, but i want to ask them if there is any plans for a return line fitting on the oil pan, bigger injectors, and ecu upgrades like the proposed kit from west covina. It seems like not likely though.

I've been on this board for a long time, the GP turbo thing has been posted 3 times by people who have set it up, and nobody wanted it. What blows my mind is how people would spend $8000 on a paint job and not a turbo kit, especially after all their crying about it.

I also spoke to turbo performance and Ive done a little research about their turbo its a Garrett turbo T3 , or an option of a T4 pretty much comes with everything and it comes already 6psi at the wastegate but if u want to be push your luck you must do internal mods , pistons , rods, etc..beef up the motor a little, since ive been speaking to them they are pretty cool people i have a spec sheet of what it comes with and people are saying one thing and a person is saying another but you wont know till you try it so anyone wants to do a group buy they are willing to do it for me for $2800 , 4 or more people .. IM me at paulie823 if anyone is interested, i have two people already ,, need two more.

Supposively when the matrix XR was introduced XS engineering made a turbo kit for it, it shares the same engine as the GT-S Celica. Only problem is, they didn't produce the kit, yet they still have the power to make one, after install and i/c, the kit put out over 75+ hp to the wheels

I would just like to say to all you people that are whining about it adds only 50hp at 5psi, YOU ARE DUMB AND IM SORRY FOR THAT, so what if it come set at 5psi just knock the boost up beore you put the turbo in, DUH, 1psi is worth 10-20hp depending on application and the setup.

Hey wait a minute ToyoGT, I thought you and I were cool. Don't doubt me. I'm working hard to help get this turbo out in market. I still have iron it out but it'll come. Right now Bob doesn't know of our plans because I'm still trying to get it starting and get the pricing that I can. Yes I admit I'm very new in this business but we have a lot of plans for our shop. We didn't invest all this money on a shop and a dyno to not try the best we can. Being a shop that specializes in Toyota/Lexus I figured we could help put out some fast Celica's out to the track. If this kit doesn't work out then we'll look into other means for forced induction for the Celica. We have the means to R&D our own but we figured we can help promote a kit that is already out in the market. I really hope I can help you guys out.
Richard
PS. Are you even talking about me ToyoGT. Oh well if you're not at least my plans are known.

No man I'm not talking bout you at all. We are cool as far as I know, if it wasn't for you my HID's would still be shooting up into the trees :D
I was referring to the individual from New York who said he needed 4 people for a group buy for $2800 a piece (down from $3400). I called them to ask if they authorized this and they said they knew nothing about it. He said there is no way they could do $2800 each for a group buy. he wouldn't make ANY money off of it.
