Post Counts have been turned back on becuase I believe it helps distinguish sometimes between veteran members and non veteran members..
Posts made in off topic do NOT count towards your post count. IF whoring takes place ANYWHERE on NC.org to increase to your post count for WHORING reasons I will ban your account without a second thought and the decisions on bannings are FINAL. Keep that in mind..

If someone continually posts with no substance, what's the gain? Gain "status" on the site for quality posts, not quantity.

I like the post count being back like larry said it's a way to know the difference between the new and old people, why should posting in Off Topic count it is just that Off topic meaning it has absolutly nothing to do with the celica or cars. Isn't that what this site is about?

Personally I think it is a great idea. Maybe it will calm down some of the people in OT posting stupid stuff too.

I love the new rules. I really get annoyed at the senseless posts. And the OT rule is especially cool, since there are some members that just post BS for no reason.

Great idea Larry, but where did my posts go? I was above 1800 before..
larryd
05-17-2002, 01:33 PM
as most of you know when we switched software some post counts were set to 0 and some werent becuase of a glitch in the upgrade.. Im seriously contemplating making all the post counts go back to 0
SlasherX
05-17-2002, 01:37 PM
oh, i didn tknow that..ok cool.
dont set them all back to 0..sites been aroudn 2 years now roughly, right? the senior members shoudl get some perks cuz of that...like keeping their post count numbers.
larryd
05-17-2002, 01:45 PM
problem is some of the senior members have like barely any posts compared to the people whove whored in off topic for many months

i dont see any problems w/ the ideas. cool thing larry
i'm not sure about the idea.. and especially if your considering bringing the posts back down to 0, the point of bringing them back was to show who has been here long.. right? but doesn't that registered date do that. I mean you can distinguish who has been here for awhile and who hasn't based on that.
also your point in OT was that of post count=intelligence, and it would help for newbies to know who to believe more. But what if i was just a lurker.. been a member for a long time and had a low number of posts because i mostly liked to read. Then one day i decided to answer a question.. if my information is correct and proves that i have much knowledge in cars.. then what does post count matter?
I understand your points on doing this, but i don't understand how you can justify post count=intelligence. And also why does senority matter? wouldn't that make new people feel unwelcomed? i just don't see a point in post counts at all. And taking post counts down didn't stop people in OT from "whoring"... if you don't like "whoring" then why even have an OT? Everyone knows thats what OT gets used for... people post BS because sometimes they just get tired of being serious all the time and want to let lose.
I'm not trying to go against your actions Larry.. but i'm trying to bring a different light into the situation to think about. Just because you've been here a long time and posted a lot outside of OT doesn't mean your better then someone who hasn't posted enough, it doesn't make you more knowledgable and belieavable. When i was a newbie i didn't even really know about post counts... i just went with whatever responces seemed intelligent, like the person knew what they were talking about.

Well I'm not a believer in post counts. Especially if you are gonna judge someone's opinion based on their post count. That doesn't make sense to me. You trust them because they post a lot? Big deal. What if every post they make is wrong? You're gonna do or not do what they say because they have a high post count.
I'm a much bigger believer in the date registered. Or maybe both. Using my own logic, just because someone has been on here for 2 years doesn't mean they know what they are talking about either.
Over at the Eclipse site I've only got 20 posts because they've turned off the count in most of the forums. I think the only one I post in that counts towards post count is General Discussion.

on this logic though..
posts counts used in combination with date registered can also help a person out.. Its the way alot of people look at it.. I mean I know on the DSM site there are people who I would listen to and those who i wouldnt, and though post count and date registered arent everything, they do help

I agree. After lurking around for a while, you kinda get teh feel of who knows their sheit and who talks out of their @ss. Post count dont mean much. Larry could set his and anyone's to whatever he wants being an Admin. One of the cool perks of the job :D
That's probably how he has so many too:gap:

Your's probably was one that was reset. No biggie. Post count dont matter much in some people's book anyways.
Karim
05-19-2002, 05:26 PM
hehe mine got reset, oh well that's 1300+ post in the hole.
i do agree the combination of post count with date registered can help in deciding if someone knows what they are talking about or are just talking outta their arse.
