Refitted then head and got the engine running properly for the first time in almost two months, supercharger and all.

So its off to the rolling road tomorrow morning for the long awaited setup and power figures etc.

I am pretty sure its going to be short of fuel at the top end so I don't expect to be getting massive numbers but it should give a good idea of what to expect.

BTW - Larry, is this ok as its got something to do with power figures on my SC :D

Had a bit of a problem yesterday, timing chain cover sprung an oil leak so I spent the day refitting that, bitch of a job :( By the time it was finished the rolling road was shut. Rebooking for next Saturday so hopefully nothing else will go wrong.

On the plus side the S-AFC seems to be doing a great job and the car now runs better than ever :)

Just be careful on the top end running lean. We started detonating on our dyno and they had to shut it down before we did major damage.

On the plus side, the AFC kinda helped a bit, but not enough. What other mods did you do to set up for the SC? Looking forward to some ##'s.:D

At the moment nothing else has been done, I am planning on uprating the whole fuel system so it will be a return line, larger injectors and pump to suit.

That'll be sweet. I cant wait to see some numbers with the SC:D

Same here, I am just so gutted it all went a bit wrong yesterday, the car is just so damned quick now.

Hehe, did you have to do anything for the ECU to put the SC in?

I tried to use a Haltech E6K, but it just can't cope with the variable timing so I have now removed it, I have the S-AFC now which is ok, but I want to fit the Power FC to get proper tuning of the engine done.

MR2 Quik
05-19-2002, 12:29 AM
Haltech didnt bother telling you that it wouldnt work with the VVTLi?!?

I removed the AFC, VPC, boost controller, fuel cut and G-Force and bought the Haltech. I just have to wait to see how it all works together :D

MR2 Quik
05-19-2002, 12:30 AM
Just curious, but how long did it take you to get your Haltech? Ours took about 1-2 months to get then we didnt have all the parts. We finally got all the sensors and were waiting on the map sensor. It took forever!!!

It took a couple of months but it arrived complete. I then needed to fit the motronic chipset and that took a couple of weeks to show up. I also fitted the CDI and twin coil packs which took about a month to arrive.

I do have to say though that all the contact I have had with Haltech Australia has been positive, they are always helpful and responded to my eMails promptly. I guess the delivery delays are just a consequence of buying something from the other side of the world. Having said that, I have bnought stuff in the UK which took significantly longer to arrive for no apparent reason, so I guess they are doing ok. It just seems to take forever when all you want to do is take the car out and have some fun :)

Yeah, I ordered mine from Haltech USA and they took forever. I dont know if it initially came from Aust, but I had talked to a guy from Aust before I bought it. Vere smart. Too bad he went back to Aust.:( Now I dont know who to talk to for tuning it.....

Well the rolling road session was a bit of a let down, and then again it was also pretty good.

The car has BIG fuelling problems on full load so a power run was out of the question, however, we did get 110bhp at the wheels at 3200rpm. The last dyno I did before having the SC fitted we got 105bhp at the wheels at about 6500rpm, so the improvement is definitely huge. No torque figures to tell you as yet.

I am now going to go and do all the fuel work required and then give it another go, whilst I am waiting for the bits to turn up I am fitting a larger supercharger and an intercooler with water injection. Well I might as well have some fun in the interim :D

You're putting on a larger s/c before you have the fuel situation figured out with this one?

celicauk
05-24-2002, 10:06 AM
The main reason being that when fitting an intercooler I am going to lose at least 2psi, if I fit a larger one and up the boost a bit, then I can compensate for the intercooler and still run 10psi. It will also give me the option to up the boost further once all the fuelling problems are dealt with.

Why are you getting such low figures stock?
Maybe I am misunderstanding this but 105 is very very low

105bhp to the wheels on a stock VVTi is in line with the manufacturers spec in the workshop manuals, got to admit though, I expected a bit more from a car allegedly producing 140 at the crank.

well, it's still not tuned, right?

if that's the case, that's most likely the problem, so go tune the "bloody wanker" ;)

You've lost me mate.

Its running short of fuel so I have to sort that out, then I can go back to tuning it, not a lot of tuning to be done if theres not enough fuel.

Call EIP & ask if they sell ther fuel system. They have new pump, injectors
&return line.Let me know what you find out.

Just a quick update.

Ordered some stuff from Takakaira last week:

Apexi Power FC
Apexi Commander
Greddy/Trust 550cc Injectors
Apexi RSM-GP (so I bought a new toy :) )
SARD FPR (Just in case)

Unfortunately the Power FC is on back order until 30th June, oh well, it'll give me time to fit the intercooler and relocate the intake.

Not much else to tell at the moment, just got to wait on the parts :(

105 is pretty low, didn't some GT guys in the states dyno at 120 or more stock?

but 115hp @ 3200rpm is really good, but did it peak there? what was the new hp @ 6500rpm? or can you not run the car above 3200rpm or something.

celicauk
06-09-2002, 11:31 AM
105 may well be low, I've seen big variances on this though so it could be almost anything, its not something I'm worried about, after all its just a benchmark.

Not peak at that point, no where near I don't think, as no full throttle and lack of fuel, also not running full boost at that point either, I expect to see this go up a bit more, then the top end should be a bit ridiculous, I'm not going to enter into guesstimates on this, just have to wait and see.

I could take it over 3200rpm, however, that would only be on about 30% throttle and less than 3psi boost, not really worth it.
