Hi, I've recently bought a 2001 celica vti 190 and the clutch has started to slip in the higher gears. The car has done 70,000 miles but has FSH and appears to have been well maintained and looked after (apart from the obvious abuse to the clutch!). So, onto my question: is it possible to adjust the clutch or is the only option to install a replacement clutch? If my only option is to have a new clutch fitted does anyone have any idea of the cost?
I have phoned a couple of garages but they seem reluctant to give me a quote and I get the old "oh...it's a big job...it's gonna cost you..." etc. etc.
Cheers,
Chris

Time for a new clutch, and it's a fairly big job as they have to remove the tranny to get to it. No ideawhat it would cost in the UK.

on a floor jack it's a five hour job with competent people. if you gotta lift, that's another story...
When I bought my 2001, I had to replace the clutch and it took the shop 10+ hours to replace my clutch...
cost about a G with labor :\

If you are technically inclined, it should take you six hours, but usually people just send them to shops to get it done. In the US, it ranges from about 300 (minimum for a good replacement) to 800 at the dealer. That is without parts. That is also where I come in, as I have a genuine Exedy Replacement clutch kit for sale, direct OEM fit, for 110 bucks+shipping :D.
