has anyone gotten a letter in the mail for 2000 and 2001 Celicas with faulty headlights? I got one today saying I needed to get it fixed A.S.A.P. because they are too bright when operating? Do I really need to get this fixed and has anyone else had this done? They said they would do it for free...

... Right...
They just wanted to able to work on your car as they please. So they make you drop your car off first thing in the AM.

Its a recall on the DRL. Toyota says the DRL lights are too bright and can make the light of the blinker not be seen that well by other drivers...causng accidents.

Don't you know that's what all service techs think about all the time at the dealership?
"oh man...I hope someone comes in with a Celica...I soooooo wanna drive one of those all day long!"
Last time they had my car they kept it for 3 months and put 200+ miles on it 'cuz the idiots couldn't figure out how to install a clutch properly.

well, i finally took mine in to get the recall done and it turns out, whatever needed to be done, had already been done and the person i got my car from forgot or something....??? i don't know, but i asked about this on this forum i think, and most people said it's nothing to worry about, but if you have extra time on your hands, i guess you could do it. and if i remember correctly, the problem is that when the drl's are on, people can't see your turn signal.

I think there is one in the Install forum. Go search.

I heard from the radio a couple days ago. Having your headlight on reduces the number of a daytime accidents. Close 30%.

I got the letter and I had them check it when I got my alignment from the dealer.

I looked. I can see my turn signals with the DRLs on. I can expect others to see it as well. I've been ignoring the recall for almost two years.
When I read the notice the first time, it almost seemed like the the problem was the chance that the lights would go to full high beam mode. If they do, then I'll take it in. I'm not interested in lessening the brightness of the normal DRL.

I got the letter for the DRL, and after calling Toyota I found out my car was not brought in for the brake master cylinder recall by the prior owner(s). So I took it in for them to work on both at the same time.
