View Full Version : Fixed Squeaky Clutch Myself!

I was in my engine bay today, relubing the shifter mechanism (started to squeak again), and while I was shifting through the gears, I noticed I had the squeaky clutch problem (usually associated with a damaged throwout/release bearing). Needless to say, I was quite unhappy. I tried spraying everything that had exposed hinges down there just in case, but that didn't stop the squeaking.

Then I tried pushing on the hinge connected to the throwout bearing. It was kinda hard to push, but with a little effort, it moved. There was also a swooshing fluid-like sound (kinda like when you're low on coolant, but a lot quiteter). The swooshing sound went away in three or four pushes.

I jumped back in the car after a few more pushes, and the squeaky clutch was 99% gone! I pressed it in a good 20-30 more times to make sure, and the loud squeak didn't come back. There was still a very quiet squeak in the background when I pushed the clutch in very slowly, but you'd never hear it when the engine is on.

It may be only temporary, who knows, but for now it saved me an annoying trip to the dealership.

All you did was push the air outta the slave cylender. (the pin that moves what you pushed left. you can accomplish the same by bleeding the system at the slave cyl. there is a bleeder valve right on it. good fix though

hmmm i try that, even tho my clutch doesnt squeak anymore (after new clutch), but i had a hard time moving it to the left. maybe is because my clutch is harder than stock to move. but i was wondering what would happen anyway. funny how you find all these cheap, or free fixes. eheheh :D

blue, that is ur throwout bearing man. Mine squeaked like hell after I gotta new tranny and the dealer replaced the folk and throwout bearing along with flywheel and the clutch.

It is exactly where I was having problem. If you push the folk to the left, it will stop rattling, therefore no more squeaking. You will have to replace the throwout if you want that noise to be completely off of your engine bay. Get it done if you still have the warranty left.

You might want to take it to the dealer to see if they will cover it under warranty and if they give you shiet about it let me know and I will send you a copy of my warranty invoice man.

(a repost from another thread. Try this first)
Chances are, the clutch mechanism needs to be lubed. Mine creaked and I only noticed when stopped or at drive thru. Pedal felt fine. Open your hood, in front of the engine block you should see a hydraulic line attached to one of the clutch cylinders. Just to the right is a metal lever (mine was rusty). If someone pushes the clutch in, in should pull the lever to the right. There is a rubber accordian boot attached to the base. See the little opening in it? Spray some lith grease in there. Push the clutch in and out a few times and repeat.

Does your creaking go away? if it does, then it was obviously not the throwout bearing (which everyone seems to jump to as a conclusion).

Now if you clutch pedal is sticking, then you have to worry about the cylinders... Hope that helps. My 5 day worries went away once I figured out it was a simple fix.

For the above link, I did that and it didn't fix the squeak... actually when the clutch is pushed in, you'll notice it goes to the right (not the left). I also started the car after pushing it in, and then tried it and then turned the car off. It didn't do anything, the creaking was there just as it was. But if the car was off it went away...
