Yeah, i noticed a slight difference (increase) in intake sound when I installed a K&N filter in my GT.

Also, there is somewhat better throttle response and slight power increase.

If you plan on keeping the stock airbox, it`s a worthwhile upgrade.

BTW, you can get the K&N for about $35 if you shop around.

By the way, if you want a K&N filter drop-in, I have one that I am trying to sell for $20 plus whatever shipping. It's been used for about 5,000 miles and I still have the original packaging that it came with. Nothing is wrong with it, still oiled too, and I'm trying to sell it because of the CAI I have. In my opinion, it gives a little better response, and when you accelerate, you can hear the deeper sound than a OEM filter. Worth it for little money. Well let me know if you want it.

There are a few different companies selling the same intake (kinda like with the APC and Yangson tails). Here are a few of the auctions up right now:

Hey some people want to just keep their engine completely stock and don't want to modify at all. I added my TRD drop in so I don't have to change it often. BTW get the K&N a friend of mine has it on his Celica and it does sound a bit better though.

isnt trd and the k&n the same? if so, then the k&n is the best value. i got mine new for 35 at some shop that was recommended by k&n. i've had mine in my car for over 10k miles.

if you pull the butterfly valve out and put in the K&N filter it is much louder then stock, in fact with the butterfly removed the K&N is much louder then the stock filter.

If anyone wants K&N filter, I'm willing to sell mine for $20 plus whatever shipping. It's in it's original box and it's been used for 6 months.

hp, torque, throttle response, sounds ........ blah blah blah. If you are in it for the long haul with the stock box get the K&N. It will save you money vs. having to replace the paper one every year or so. Any other benefits are just icing on the cake.
